Some true facts: Biologically gay people make up 5% of humans, whereas true transgendered people number about one in 10 000.

What other gay is there in your viewpoint?

Lots of people experiment with that, and are confused for years before they figure out their true sexual preferences. Those are genetic, but we're blasted with so many images and msgs from the media that it's no surprise that it takes some ppl so long to listen to what their own bodies and their own hearts tell them about what really pleases them.

What's your basis for these findings?

The first (5% of the population is biologically gay) came from my 2003 medical anthropology textbook. I'd consider it about as reputable a source as there is out there.

The second (trans people number 1 in 10 000) is from an online and somewhat less reliable source. However, I've known many, many transwomen. Possibly the entire population of Toronto. Don't forget, I was homeless in my teens, drug free, not a prostitute, and not a victim of any other type of organized crime. How do you think I accomplished that? Ez pz. I found my way into the gay ghetto, where my sisters kept me safe and taught me...  things...  ;D

I would bet on my hunch that the researchers' findings were correct.

The survey was smthg I'd heard on the radio.

You do know that if I start a sentence with "lots of people" I'm not quoting a formal study, right?  xD

That last paragraph is a (likely heavily biased) personal observation with all kinds of opinion on top. But since the conundrum to which I'm referring is the subject of  all kinds of literature and cinematic melodrama, it's at least archetypally true  xP

Eek.

Billy that's a trans guy. Not sure if boobie removal surgery is any worse than a dickectomy, but I get srs empathy overload from it. I don't particularly like penises and I don't have one, so I'm just kinda meh about mtf surgeries

But OUCH. How could anybody cut her boobies off? I could never...   :(

I do understand a desire to not be treated like a third class citizen, fuckhole and kitchenwhore, tho.

I hope dude heals up and doesn't die from that infection. That is a nasty one.

Lots of emotional arguments in here because some of you are repulsed by gender change. Which is fine, but at least evaluate at what point it might be beneficial to a person and think about that.

Actually, no. My sensibilities are not Xtian.

What I'm repulsed by is infection, pain, and turning a functional thing into a functionless ornament.

It's the same thing that keeps me from getting the cosmetic surgeries I've been wondering about all these years.

My ass can stay big, my boobs can stay small, and my face can age gracefully... for now, at least.

I prefer to keep the sensation in my nipples over having them slice and diced into smthg that creepy nasty men will find more attractive.

I might feel differently in 5-10 years when I start to look rlly old and gross, tho. I'm talking about that point where ugliness starts to affect employability.

Not sure if that matters for males, but it seems to matter for women where I am.

Useless ornaments are a waste of money, imo. Useless ornaments are almost always about vanity and narcissism, and tryinta impress other people.

I feel the same way about maraschino cherries lol

There's another issue TC hasn't considered.

He's most employable as a male.

There's also that thing that happens to bosses, coworkers and friends after any big change in a person's life.

It happened to me when I had kids, and again when I went back to school.

I hear it also happens to people who win lotteries and go through dramatic weight changes.

Many of the people you know will be horrid to you after a big change like this.

And yeah, you're prolly saying "I'm better off without them" or w/e.

But what if it's your boss or your landlord, or somebody who wants to badmouth you to your boss or landlord?

This is how people end up homeless.

And the shitty thing is, you can't know who will turn on you until the damage is done.

^ This is why people come to regret transitioning.

They have this goofy movie of themselves playing  in their mind's eye, with their new product stitched on to their wherever, walking down the street to some corny themesong like John Travolta back in the day, with the ladies all swooning at their feet...

And then reality kicks in, and they get bashed, and/or fired, and/or dumped, and/or booted out of their apartment.

So again, think about why you're rlly doing this. Why does having a vagina really matter that much to you?

Does it matter more than having a job? If worse comes to worst, are you prepared to do the things Cain had to do to survive?

Or worse? Cuz dude... you don't quite have what Cain has, ifyouknowhatimean...

Or would you just end up in a mental health facility, using your overpriced vagina to warm your padded cell?

I dunno, I've been seeing orientation* as a spectrum instead of just rigid ideas, especially once you start factoring T vs E balances within a society that's gradually looking at gender less strictly by drawing more lines. I see it as a sign of having gone past the biological imperative and suspect it'll develop further as time goes on.

While acceptance-mongering to some degrees could push someone further than they might go on their own, people going against their own grain for sexual behaviors tend to find themselves repulsed by it even within more accepting mindsets.

I would bet on my hunch that the researchers' findings were correct.

It's still good to be able to reference your sources, if you want to be reputable.

Even just being like "So I heard on NPR the other day..." passes the bill to where you got your information instead of having it sit solely on you.

I agree with the concept of gender as a spectrum.

I know how evolution works, too.

Physical and hormonal intersex phenotypes are as much a part of our genetic diversity as our dozens of shades of skin.

All I'm saying is that certain phenotypes are extremely rare, and I'm dubious about most of the people who claim to be one of the rare types.

A lot of people claimed to be Princess Anastasia, too.

How did they test them?

Something about androgens and when the balls drop inside the mother's womb...

Blah. You're gonna make me work for this, aren't you?  :P

I'll go hit JSTOR and refresh my memory with some boring old journals.

bbl  :P

I'd meant orientation, but otherwise it's a similar point to be making I guess.

Yep, randomized-yet-weighted recombination through a Darwinian Stress Test.

Are you sure you aren't just drawing the line in a different spot than modern ideology'd go for?

A lot of people claimed to be Princess Anastasia, too.

How many..?
