I'd be inclined to agree with that as well. Back at college, when I was doing therapy for extra credit (psyche classes offered some weird extra credit opps), the shrink I was doing sessions with suggested I get evaluated.
Going in and doing their tests, I appeared very unstable. They were wanting to throw huge cocktail orders of meds at me to try to balance me out.
Then I found Zinc, completely on accident (was taking it for the theories on it related to reducing stress), and all the crazy went away over a few days. They refused to even believe Pyroluria was a thing, and still insisted I take those meds. I politely told them to fuck themselves, and carried on with Zinc.
To this day, I am still unhindered by those problems (as long as I remember to keep taking my Zinc anyway). It's still seen by many as a "Snake Oil Salesman" tactic, only working through placebo. For me? Sanity was an unintended side effect.
Can only trust doctors so far, as they only have what they know and what you give them to work with. They are still humans themselves, and prone to all kinds of errors, with terrible consequences once the body adjusts to the dosages.
