Comparing sales signals where most of the fans are. Metal Gear Solid 1 sold Playstations Metal Gear Solid II "was" exclusive on Sony, where the fans are.

Konomi, and Hideo were rewarded greatly by the very Playstation gamers who made them even richer. The landslide is on the PS2. 7 million sales to 1. XboX DID NOT, have more Metal Gear Fans.

Raiden should've been an optional character, though he played exactly the same as Snake.

At the time there was no patching games online so a better version of MGS2 was released on Xbox, and the biggest fans never played it.

Other than this, I don't care about your meaningless denials. No one liked Raiden while the iron was hot. You do cause you're not an OG Metal Gear player from the 80's. You probably don't remember the world without the internet when the PS1 took off. Damn. I was a teenager.

Guy I'm getting bored now.

Sales show where the larger player base was, not that every person who bought the game was a “real fan” or that every fan disliked Raiden. A PS2 sales advantage does not tell us the opinions of millions of individual players.

The claim also was never that there was no backlash. The point is that backlash from some fans does not prove Raiden was universally disliked, nor does it prove your interpretation of what should have happened with the character.

Saying I am not an “OG” player does not address the argument. Someone’s age or when they started playing Metal Gear does not determine whether their analysis is valid. A newer player can understand the game, and an older player can still have a subjective reaction.

Your personal disappointment with Raiden is clear. The part that does not follow is turning that disappointment into claims about all fans, sales meaning, or who is allowed to have an opinion.

PS2 = 7 million sales

XboX = 1 million and change sales

It's not possible for Xbox to even have a bigger MGS2 fanbase, no matter how many you'd label true or untrue fans. Hell. Maybe half a million are people that owned MGSII on PlayStation, that's not a good thing. The only good reason to get it is to play as Snake.

Anyone with half a brain would know this math. It's grade 2 level.

Of course it does. You weren't even aware. This stuff probably happened before you were born. Me ? I was there.

I know your argument. I say no one likes Raiden. You say, well some people do. Well duh, that's painfully obvious.

Let's see here....Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. This is Raiden's game.

I see it came out in 2013.... It did poorly.... 2 million units sold across XboX and PlayStation.

The game was revived by internet memes in 2021 and went on to sell a combined 6 million units.

It's nice how Konomi was able to get the kids to buy their old unsuccessful game, and happy you are.

Yes the game died and it gained popularity from people making fun of it with memes, triggering another 4 million sales EIGHT YEARS after.

I'm talking about real Metal Gear tho. Not some hack and slash spinoff using the name.

When asked, I'd say Raiden's fanbase are cattle. It became a trend to make fun of the game, Oh hey, lets get it ! lol okay. Real Metal Gear titles still slap harder in sales.

Uh Correction. That is Raiden's 2nd game. Metal Gear Solid II being the first.

I know your argument. I say no one likes Raiden. You say, well some people do. Well duh, that's painfully obvious. Let's see here... Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. This is Raiden's second game. I see it came out in 2013... It did poorly... 2 million units sold across XboX and PlayStation. The game was revived by internet memes in 2021 and went on to sell a combined 6 million units. It's nice how Konomi was able to get the kids to buy their old unsuccessful game, and happy you are. The sales numbers do not prove what you are using them to prove. PS2 selling more copies than Xbox does not show that PS2 owners were the “real fans” or that Xbox owners were less invested. It only shows that the PS2 had a much larger audience and was the original platform for the release. Sales numbers measure purchases, not the opinions or legitimacy of the people who bought it.

You also say “no matter who you would call true or untrue fans,” but that distinction is exactly what you keep introducing. You dismiss Metal Gear Rising as not “real Metal Gear,” describe people who like Raiden as trend followers, and imply that certain fans have more legitimacy than others.

A spin-off being different from the mainline games does not make the people who enjoy it less valid fans. It only means they enjoy a different part of the series. Someone can prefer the stealth games, someone else can prefer the action-oriented games, and both can still be fans.

The same applies to Raiden. “Many fans disliked the protagonist switch” and “nobody liked Raiden” are completely different claims. The first is supported by the historical backlash. The second is disproven by the existence of people who liked the character. The issue is not that you disliked Raiden. The issue is turning your personal preference into a test of who counts as a legitimate fan, then criticizing others for supposedly doing the same thing.
