Well that's faggotry and most people aren't faggots. It's not about sexual attraction. Plus you're a noob and never lived through it.
Metal Gear Solid was hot. The sequel comes out, with the most anticipated game on history at the time. Snake is back, the trailer is lenghty and epic, reallt good new theme song, here we go. After the first stage, we're stuck playing as a pretty boy. Like we're stoked about being Snake, but instead we're playing as a stranger. Then... They release it on xbox and in that version they give the option to play as Snake.
Kojima. You ass. You shafted us, and after awhile released the better version on Xbox. In the middle of a vigorous console war. Now the boy looks like a martial arts cyborg. Used to be more like Snake but now they really want him to be better. Kojimi learned Raiden should be nothing more than an option. It's a fourm of pride. Raiden is Kojima's wound. His error. Snake sells Raiden doesn't. He's even worse under Snake's shadow. Who cares if he can do the windmill as a cyborg.
MGS3/4 Never touched it. And look how old Snake is in four.
MGS5. Got it for it's visuals on PC and couldn't play it.
Calling my preference inherently “faggotry” makes no sense.
Never said it was inherent, that's something you've added.
Finding a male character more attractive does not define someone’s sexuality or imply a desire for sex.
Well you do think Nightwing is hot. Raiden falls under similar category. And you're a homosexual.
Attraction can influence how people respond to characters consciously or subconsciously, just as familiarity and nostalgia can.
Do you know what happens when you tell a person you're attracted to them ? It isn't a platonic gesture, it's kinda asking for more.
You also cannot verify your claim about what “most people” are.
Of course I can. Most people are straight.
Snake is cool and all but I wouldn't say I'm attracted to the character.
There is no objective “we” here, only separate brains reacting differently. You treated Raiden as an unwanted stranger because the marketing and opening section created an expectation of playing as Snake, then the switch produced a prediction error and violated that expectation. Others could experience the same change as a welcome change of pace. “Living through it” only means your brain encountered those stimuli during the original release context. My brain can still understand the stimuli and processes involved, just as I can understand why Psycho Mantis reading a memory card felt personally surprising without having experienced it at release. Firsthand nostalgia does not give your interpretation greater authority.
Yada yada.
The backlash was public. When Metal Gear Solid II came out it was quite controversial because of Raiden.
Hideo Kojima's response was something along the lines of "It's my Metal Gear, I can ruin it if I want" So as you can see it's not just me making this up.
If someone anticipates and buys Batman, they should get Batman, not some weirdo inserting themselves into the basically the whole game except the first stage.
Metal Gear Solid II was my 4th Metal Gear game. Different than the 8 bit version, but it was still Snake. MGS2 The big one that shook the globe and changed gaming forever. The fans of this game were in the front row, buying the first release, and those are the people who got shafted, and if we wanted to experience the game as Snake, we'd have to buy an XboX and another copy of the game.
Like. They gave the best version of the game to people who never anticipated or wanted it the most.
PS2 = 7 million copies sold < The fans
XboX = 1.39 copies sold < Sure, some fans
PS2 is no and ifs or buts MGS2 is a first day buy and we found out Raiden was a thing at home. Dude, in those days the disappointment hit as hard as the hype, and hype was more potent back then compared to now. Today's hype doesn't slap.
The rest is unsupported speculation. Raiden’s later redesign does not prove Kojima wanted him to surpass Snake, regarded him as a wound, or concluded he was a mistake. You are replacing “I disliked this” with “we were shafted,” then inventing motives for Kojima to make that reaction sound historical rather than personal.
Kojima had some damage control to do.
One minute, Raiden is exactly like Snake. His late design is a complete overhaul and now he's a cyborg Samurai with a katana blade. I haven't played that game but I see Raiden. Looks like he can have a kung fu match with a super ninja and would decimate Snake in combat. ( Ryu Hayabusa would fuck him up )
Metal Gear is meant to be military spy navy seal shit.
In any case, it's not my Metal Gear anymore and hasn't been since I was like 23. I waited, watched the trailer again and again, showed it off, it was the talk of the town. After all that, I only had 1 playthrough.
Despite your opinion, my claims are supported.
