Explain to me your idea of the subconscious, we may both be using the word to mean different things.

Be more clear between distinctions of conscious, subconscious and unconscious.  They have very different definitions and application.  Oftentimes, subconscious and unconscious are grouped together, but they can mean very different things.

Subconscious can often be accessed, indirectly or some other way, with conscious activity -- such as habit-forming, through evidences of behavior, etc.  Unconscious usually means no real access or awareness, or at least by much different means.

That's my hot-take.

I agree with this but I still think that unconscious is a part of the subconscious,  because subconscious means not being consciously aware of it soo yeah

like physical bodily reactions = unconscious  like the impulsive ones that fire up  and influencing our subconscious can sometimes change stuff going on in the unconscious in my opinion

Autonomic processes, like digestion and much of the bodily functions that go on, are largely unconscious but, of course, controlled by the brain.  The only real way to affect those processes are by -- using digestion for example -- diet, and to some extent emotional reactions which are only accessed consciously through conditioning.  I would imagine that would be labeled subconscious?  Breathing is a largely autonomic process, but we have some conscious control over it, such as holding our breath and subconsciously when we have fight-or-flight reactions, etc.  (Which we can modify with our own conditioning of responses.)  Our heartbeat, however, is not something we have much access to, except maybe in conditioning reactions, but it is largely unconscious.

soo continuing reading this book it seems that shadow work is also a lot of "love your Inner child" work which I am already doing in internal Family Systems therapy ugh  "love your Inner child,  love your Inner child,  love your Inner child"  It's everywhere for me rn  my Inner child was freaking beautiful and amazing and then all of this bad stuff happened to us,  of course I love her but what I am struggling with is loving the 28 year old adult me who has been through soo much horrible shit

like I feel like I already love my Inner child because I feel like she was perfect,  but I so badly want to be like this perfect human being as an adult with no flaws and to be this flawed as I am is like,  soo contradictory to my ideal of wanting to be a perfect immaculate human being

but I suppose that I can choose to pour self-love onto myself onto all of myself both "the good" and "the bad" and see what happens

any thoughts or feelings that come up that I am unworthy of love for any reason I can just choose to love myself no matter what  and honestly this tactic could probably calm down my borderline pd trait stuff because a lot of that is rooted in fear of abandonment and rejection and not being loved enough
