edit: that being said you seem to attack everything head on bearing the brunt of the pain like rocky balboa

Mmhmm....best way to deal with shit. Head on. It won't kill you, it's emotional/ psychological, not a death sentence.

that sounds dramatic..i agree with you missc that its good to be cautious or laid back sometimes. there are times when a person is better off not trying to handle everything.

He's somewhat my foil in this respect. While his mind's palace is where he finds peace, my mind is closer to a torture chamber. While he doesn't want to tarnish his home with outside risks, I want to muddle my mind's mixture as much as I can with a variety of outside influences in hopes of distracting myself from it, whether it's toughening past problems or adding layers to myself.

In a way, he is like water, able to change shape in an instant, but risks being polluted by outside influences, while I am more like earth, appearing solid and strong in the face of other elements while weathering down overtime into sand all the same.

If I don't, I'll be that much more sensitive to it, ruminate on it that much more. If tolerance is to form, it has to be faced, as I can't just ignore that it's there and carry on like it never happened without other areas showing some fractures. I need to toughen past it or it will destroy me under it's weight.

i really like this. i used to think it always works but i think sometimes its good not to ruminate on a particular issue and focus on the positive stuff.. for a clear cut example it would be trying really hard to fall asleep.

Have you allowed it to define yourself?

Seriously, are you OK?

Echoing MissC on that. You seem down since you came back from your trip...

I'm doing better than I was anyway. I was not in a good place mentally towards the end of the trip and past it.

What, tolerance?

Depends what you mean by tolerance. I am not clear on that from your perspective.  What is it that you have defined that you need to 'toughen" past or be destroyed by it?

And what is "it"...specifically.

thats a great abstract comparison. heres what i understand of it in concrete terms: syst goes all out minimalist and gets practice to thrive even when hes deprived. this gives him practice and he improves himself which i think is really good. you utilizes all of your resources and diversify all of your investments. there will always be something backing you up. you'll always have somewhere to run. maybe you can also try what syst does for a change.

how do you know? have you tried not ruminating? one of the reasons people drink is to forget about the negatives.

The struggles that come with living life. If it's not tolerated directly, it'll be tolerated indirectly.

In my own head, I'd rather face the scars of knife wounds over a slow poison that never goes away.

Hmm...the nature of rumination, is that it can't be shut off...so...dulling the senses with alcohol or drugs compounds the problem further.

It is an emotional/psychological  feedback loop that is haunting the awareness as it remains unresolved.

Isn't this Virus's territory? He is better with the emotional aspects.
