Democracy works. Its just slow.
Ok first off take a look at this:
http://democracyranking.org/wordpress/rank/democracy-ranking-2015/
Nordic countries are ranked in the top 5 buddy. Germany is number 7. UK is 12. USA is 16. Bulgaria is 42.
You have been bitching about the doom and disaster awaiting the nordic countries and germany because of their politics since the beginning of this discussion.
The people are becoming more aware and the Brexit is proof of it.
Brexit is the exact opposite of people being aware of what they want. 1.The biggest q in the UK right now is wtf Brexit means exactly. 2.Most brexit voters voted for issues that had little to do with the EU itself.
Also let's see how democratic the whole mess ends up being. There is a 2 party system in the UK much like in the USA, with prime ministers being elected from either the Tory or Labour parties leaders since 1922. The general public elects members of parliament from each party. The party which wins the majority in the House of Commons (which has in total 650 MPs) gets to form the government, and the leader of that party is automatically the Prime Minister.
In 2015 that was the Tory party which got 330 MPs elected in the House, and the leader of the Tories had been Cameron since 2005, so he carried on automatically as the Prime Minister. (Leaders of parties can carry on endlessly unless they quit or are thrown out by a no confidence vote from the party MPs.)
But after the referendum Cameron resigned so the Tory party had to elect a new leader. The 330 Tory MPs chose by vote two MP candidates: This lady Theresa May got 200 MP votes, and another lady called Leadsom got about 90 or so. They were supposed to then hold a campaign until september to convince the entire Tory membership (150 000 people) to vote for either one of them (the winner automatically becoming the Prime Minister). Well in the first week of the campaign Leadsom announced she quit so Theresa May was automatically made leader of the Tory party and prime minister. May escaped even the vote from the 150 000 party membership and basically ended up running the country with just the votes of 200 MP who voted for her. That is 200 people out of 45,325,100 people with the right to vote in the UK, which is 0.00044% deciding the fucking future of Britain. May had no chance of presenting ANY program about what she plans to do/achieve with the country, she was given free hand to choose whatever course of action she wants, and chances are not even she knows what that is at this point. XD Good that grandpa Pat still feels as if he had a say in this though, "took his country back".
And look, not everyone are going to get what they want. But when you have say 100 things that the people think will happen, at least 50% of those will happen after the vote, so a part of those people will get what they want. And i made up these numbers, the point is a large majority will still get what they want. You can't please everyone, you can make the same argument for those that voted remain even if they won. Its such a stupid argument imo.
It's not a stupid argument because Brexit can mean 100 different things not even the Brexiteers can agree upon, while staying in the EU means continuing on the same path.
Also if you do not like democracy, then your opinions make much more sense.
Democracy gives better results in some countries than others. The mindset and awareness of the citizens is important, how they understand their civic duties and rights.
However in the end, democracy or not, the results are as good as the leaders are. The leaders are the most important.
