People understand what guns do. It's the reason they buy them, to kill things or practice killing things. I'm sure they're aware of the risks, but hey so are people who speed.

There are measures in place that attempt to reduce gun violence. There could be more in my opinion, but they exist. Felons can't buy weapons, you must register into a database if you buy a weapon and you have to have a clear mental health record. And punishments are dealt out for reckless ownership of weapons as well, I have a cousin about to get sentenced a year for a weapon charge.

Guns aren't bad in my opinion. Where I live guns are used for hunting mainly, but they also provide protection. There's 3 guns in this house(only one has ammo for it) im at currently, the reason for it, I have two infant sisters and this rural location would take the police a long time to get here.

It's never really been, but it promotes democracy. It's apart of our culture, it just so happens that it also keeps the goverment from directly going against the people. Something American's are very wary of, considering it was founded out of a revolution.

Again, I don't believe owning a firearm is bad.

The government's responsibility is also to work within the interests of the people. It's why people who share those interests are elected in the first place, otherwise we'd just have scientist-types running the country.
