There are plenty of gay-haters who aren't religious. There are plenty of religious people who don't go out shooting gays. It's not the religion, it's the fabric of the person it works on.

The guy had serious mental and emotional issues. They are to blame for his action. Other rampage killers have similar issues but other ideologies for motivation. They don't have any holy book, they have manifestos and other shit. Breivik is still above this guy with 75 killings and 319 injured. (For those who don't know: Islamophobia is among his political views: Breivik was characterised by analysts as being a right-wing extremist with anti-Muslim views and a deep-seated hatred of Islam,[230] who considered himself a knight dedicated to stemming the tide of Muslim immigration into Europe. )

Any extreme ideology is dangerous, wouldn't you agree? Be it Islam or Islamophobia.

Yeah. And I believe you need to be sick in the head to embrace any extreme ideology in the first place. The problem is with the sick people.

Sick people will adopt extreme views, and religions are extreme. Which makes them dangerous.

Such sick people get obsessed and adopt stuff that's not religion as well. They will make up their own manifestos or religion to live by if necessary.

Religion can be used as a tool imo. It doesn't make sense to deem all hammers and hammer users dangerous because some nutters will use them to smash heads.

Yes, they're not limited to religion, but religion is often packaged in a way that makes it easily accessible for anyone with extremist leanings. Ideas and perspectives actually matter, and religions often have extreme ones. They influence people.

The main old religions benefited the societies of the past, which used to be way more bloody and savage. They brought order, bonding between members and some healthy habits to the population. Teachings aimed to keep shit like murder, conflict, disease, inbreeding, family destruction from happening in the context of more primitive societies. Ofc a lot of those teachings are outdated for nowadays society and seem "extreme" and even pointless, since there are better ways to achieve the same goals. In order to cling to outdated laws and refuse the more convenient options you need some blindness and narrowmindedness from the start imo. I think normal people naturally migrate to the more convenient attitude if given a chance.

Whatever their role in the past were they've proved to be very reluctant and resistant to change even if that change would be for the better. Islam (and other religions) is simply bad if taken literally, and I think it's wrong to say that it's not the religions' fault that people adopt these extreme views. There are also a lot of examples of 'normal' people getting indoctrinated and swayed by powerful ideologies; it's not just the 'sick' ones that are vulnerable to their narrative.

Didn't the shooter in Orlando claim some sort of allegiance to the Islamic State?

Even though ISIS is steeped in the religion, it's not solely a religious movement. It's a nationalist movement. A person doesn't need to be a religious fanatic to be drawn to its causes. Many people will adopt or at least actively tolerate and condone some aspects of a movement to which they don't personally subscribe if the majority of the cause resonates with them. I think a lot of blame lies on extreme points of Islam in general, but from what I read about this attack the religion itself only mattered in the choice of location. The location could be an easy target for any mass attack but is extra appealing due to its contents.

I don't see where the shooter's misogyny matters. I assume there were female victims, but this wasn't an attack on women. This only shows the guy hated a lot of people and had a lot of issues.

I bet he was probably a little gay.

This is a balanced view.

Look at what a screwed up mess I am? Born and raised Jehovah witness, now I am a gay transgendered misogynist pedophile posting all sorts of fucked up shit online promoting my 'beliefs'.
