As a cell biologist and career scientist, I take issue with your first sentence.  I'll let you in on a secret: Science is  painfully light on answers.  

Science can explain surprisingly little of your brain, it can only observe it, dissect it and make it twitch.  Scientists are paid based on what they can claim, so there's a lot of overreach going on.  Truth be told, the best neural research today can only begin to scratch the surface of understanding our brains, and has absolutely no idea where to start on the question of the mind.  

Questions of conciousness have only recently graduated from the realms of religion and philosophy classes into a legitimate scientific field.  

This is actually encouraging.  It means anybody posting here is just as qualified to ponder the question of conciousness.  Anybody who claims to be an authority on the matter is flat-out lying to you.
