Well, I meant before Capitalism there.
We Russians are dying out after we chose capitalism. The birth rate is lower than the death rate, even before the war with Ukraine. We lived poorly in the USSR. There wasn't such an abundance of goods in the stores, but damn, the birth rate was higher than the death rate.
That's Neoliberal capitalism, where a government and an oligarchy reign supreme. Greed comes into play cause that type of capitalism competes on a global stage instead of businesses adjusting pricing locally. Mind you in the west we're astonished with how cheap everything in Russia is, while the Russians still struggle.
The same has been happening in the west for some time, the COVID-19 pandemic was the straw that broke the camels back.
A new world order is needed across the globe and I think we'll be around to witness it.

In the Soviet Union, utility bills for housing were very low and it was not necessary to take out a mortgage to buy housing. The state was obliged to provide housing for free.

I don't think so. The future belongs to the Chinese communists. :) maybe the war in Ukraine will lead to a severe crisis and conditions for revolution will appear in Russia and Russia will become communist again

Can only hope but birth strikes is the only possible method I can see right now as being effective. I do think that under communism it would be more of a duty for people to have children.

In the Soviet Union there was no unemployment and there was criminal punishment for parasites. The court sent people to prison if they did not work for a long time.
