I'm old fashioned. I prefer no technology. I have no social media and I rarely use the computer if I am not in school. I come here when I am super depressed to feel better about myself after talking to people like you. Your life gives me hope that I am not at rock bottom. Thank you.

Damn, is this how you make yourself feel better after getting wrecked by the truth in chat?

This just makes it tempting to copy it into a topic.

I feel like this is here to be an escape from real life, but all I’ve ever wanted is a supplement to real life, where I can figure myself out and apply it to real life so I can have a more fulfilling real life. I know most people wish this was real life, but I just want help with real life and to help others with real life. What is this place supposed to be for you?

I feel like this place is real life. I hate facebook/ twitter/ insta/ pretty much every mainstream media so this is where I can socialize and be myself without left-hivemind censoring. I consider the people I interact with her to be real people I form social dynamics with.

It's more symptomatic of older people to see computers as unreal.

Thirded.  I don't see how socializing here is any less real than socializing anywhere else.  I suspect people would simply like to believe that so that they don't have to acknowledge their own emotional consequences of it, be that fear, shame, moral responsibility, etc.  It's easier for a lot of people here to tell themselves that in some form or another, SC "doesn't count".

It's weird how they say it doesn't count through just the protection of a thin veil of anonymity, as if their actions only count if they have your personal info while you're doing it.

If SC didn't count I would have far less friends and acquaintances.

It has to count.

Interestingly, the assumption that what they do or feel anonymously doesn't reflect on them, as one of their supposed primary motivations for being here, actually indicates that this place is more real for them than "real life".  If the fear of consequence is what shapes their "real life" identity, then the freedom of anonymity shows who they really are.

There are no breaks from real life. Whatever it is we do online or in our dreams, It is real life.

I figured you of all would've come to this realization by now. The ones behind the avatars are real.

As for the question, what this place is supposed to be for me, has to do with mental health, but it's different now. It's more of a habit. On the bright side foolishness doesn't phase me all that much, except for the inescapable foolishness that goes in this world. That cannot be folded and put away like it is here.

It begs the question of what words they really mean when they say "real".

I always saw your signing on here as classic narc pecking order logic through the filter of a theologian, that you could log on here and tell people off freely and without guilt from prior Ad Hominems about their character and the character of the website itself.

It strikes me as an outlet for you for when you need to believe there are people beneath you, and multiple times that I've seen you trounced from others I've seen you come here to post a ramble on your version of the events before shitting on others to not feel like you're in last place.

So in short, you think I only come here to gloat.

TC. It may sound conceited but really, most of you force me to assume I'm way better than you. I mentioned that before, but it's not like it's all I ever do.

No, I think you come here for what I described above.

Gloating's a symptom.

People who feel the need to state they're better than others tend to be petty.
