Its more like i'm saddened by the ignorance and the heavy handedness of Canada's North Korean style leftist government. All of a sudden "they" know what is best for the people of Canada without a vote of the people. Its basic totalitarianism.

I see that the gun ban is a direct reactionary measure to the shooting, and yes it feels a little disingenuous because of it. [...]

there is no doubt leftist governments want to disarm the people. the scapegoating of guns causing crime is analogous to cars causing drunk driving. its insanity

Trudeau promised this five years ago. People were mad it didn't happen sooner. A poll Friday shows 80% of Canadians support this. It's been fun watching the few who don't heads explode. lol

Maybe I'm wrong, I won't get too much into an argument.

From my perspective, I view mass shootings as a mental illness issue that is created from a decaying society. banning guns won't solve it, criminals can just get their guns illegally. Though, perhaps putting more resources into trying to treat mental illness?

Though, if I'm honest, I think it's just a systemic problem that isn't going to go away anytime soon.

No one has claimed guns cause crime. What is claimed is that guns (especially when there's lots of them) make killing much easier than it should be.

All illegal guns started out as legal guns first. Having fewer in circulation is good and its agreed by most people that no one needs semi-automatics.

The just 'treat mental illness' argument is an empty platitude, tbh. Mental illness will always exist and it will always mostly go unnoticed. No one thinks someone will snap until after they snap.

We don't really have a gun problem in Canada and people want to keep it that way.

The left has been pushing that guns cause crime for decades. you are being naive if you think this is not the case.

"Canada has tighter gun laws than in the U.S. and suffers much less gun crime, so for many citizens, the sharp rise in gun violence in Toronto is shocking. City officials and gun control advocates are trying to figure out why the surge is happening — and what they can do to stop it."

lol, shocking when they find out criminals don't give a shit about the laws.

We're hell bent on not destroying ourselves. We don't want US gun culture here.

Lots of people on 'the left" own guns. It's too bad some people have to frame all discussions on any issue into left/right now. It's irrelevant.
