Maybe I'm wrong, I won't get too much into an argument.
From my perspective, I view mass shootings as a mental illness issue that is created from a decaying society. banning guns won't solve it, criminals can just get their guns illegally. Though, perhaps putting more resources into trying to treat mental illness?
Though, if I'm honest, I think it's just a systemic problem that isn't going to go away anytime soon. All illegal guns started out as legal guns first. Having fewer in circulation is good and its agreed by most people that no one needs semi-automatics.
The just 'treat mental illness' argument is an empty platitude, tbh. Mental illness will always exist and it will always mostly go unnoticed. No one thinks someone will snap until after they snap.
We don't really have a gun problem in Canada and people want to keep it that way.
"no one needs semi-automatics."
im going to take Xena as an example. If Xena was going to the Yukon territory to camp for 4 weeks and maybe do a river float trip into the wild. I would want the best gun for her to protect herself.
The best gun for her to protect herself from bears would be a semi automatic rifle.
Why? because they are easier to use in a stressful situation. they are also typically more compact to fit into a boat
my point is there are valid lawful uses for semi automatic rifles
