I have to be honest: I'm not sure what you're driving at.  What is your stance?  Is it that gender identity is to preoccupied with itself nowadays?  What is the "non-issue" aspect of it that you are disparaging?  "Option"?  Do you mean they should be who they think they are and just get done what they think should be done without all the inward grappling of identity issue?  Do you mean that it's not right to change from the way you were born?  Concern that we can change our sex in vitro?  I believe it's been known for a while that we can control a child's sex.  It is also, in a way, evidence that sex and identity and biological factors make for a more complicated forge in our development.  I'm fairly certain you're aware of all this, so I'm wondering what your angle is precisely.
