Basically this, but I don't believe things are "meant to happen," other than in the sense that they are inevitable consequences of all things interacting in tandem.
My point is that there was no tandem interaction in this case. These two elements had no reason to collide but for some reason they randomly did.

Yes, that would be a system of equilibrium. Entropy plays a part in systems that maintain equilibrium, but equilibrium is not synonymous with thermodynamics, nor entropy.
Equilibrium describes how the forces within a system work in conjunction to form something more-or-less stable. Thermodynamics is a science which describes how the universe operates by entropy.
