How much of the differences between females and males do you think are because of how they're socialized, and how much because of other factors?

I've been seeing a lot of studies lately suggesting it's more about how they are socialized than people may think, or want to believe.

Men: Do you remember the first time you were told to man up, be a man, or real men don't... ?

Women: Do you remember the first time you were told that guys will only want you for one thing, then told you should wait to give your virginity to someone who loves you?

What about those of you who were not socialized the way most parents do their children... or, maybe you were but still didn't turn out to fit into typical stereotypes?

I'm aware that I had an unconventional childhood (and never heard anything like that), but is that a common thing amongst girls? This is (alarming) news to me.

I think the socializing factor is the most influential one and it works in both overt and subtle ways. My cousin liked to play with dolls and cars equally before starting kindergarten, and then it took him less than a month to stop with dolls altogether.

I was never told to man up by anyone but myself.

I never cared about the differences, everyone have their own different settings and have to live by them the way they can.
Man and women are so diverse i can't even imagine a typical stereotype thats not comical.

Maybe i am too much of a man to notice the stereotypes Lol.

I think my parents sheltered me too much from certain social things, or maybe i was too unresponsive, i dnk, i was too young to make a note of it and i do not remember my childhood well enough. I did have some abuse problems when i was young.

it was pretty common to hear " men only want one thing " in my house when I was young. It was both used as a warning and a put down several times. I was told not to give it away like a bitch in heat and to save it for after marriage otherwise I would be laughing at god and disrespecting him in his own house(not even 3 years later my mother entered a religion that had us "marry" locumi gods-hah)

I've heard that the public schools tend to use metaphors during the sex ed portion, and the two most cringe inducing stories i heard were:

1.) the male teacher saying that virginity was a gift to be treasured and then compared the girls to a rose and asked the class who wanted the rose. For every student that raised their hands he'd pluck a petal, he asked who still wanted the rose he would again pluck the number of petals for every raised hand until the rose was bare and told them that now the rose wasnt valuable anymore because it had been touched by so many people.

2.) the master key/bad lock was the weirdest thing I've heard but it seems to be the most known? The girls were the "lock" and boys were the "key" and a "lock" that opened up with every key was a shitty lock that no one wanted because it will open with any key. But a key that could open many locks was a master key...So don't be a shitty lock?

I think gender identity issues are a direct result of preconceived male / female personality roles of the agricultural era.  Men were more suited to till the fields while women tended to preparing foods... neither was more important and each understood their role... as well as assisted each other where appropriate... modern society has jacked up what was going down... happens

I do... it was a motivator but not quite the way intended...

OK. I haven't heard either of those stories but they are truly horrifying! Can I use them in my book?

These two examples aren't mine but I don't think there's problem in using them. Go for it I guess.

"Men: Do you remember the first time you were told to man up, be a man, or real men don't... ?"

My father put a big emphasis on me being the man of the house when him and my mother split. As a way to honor his memory and how much I wanted to see him over the years, I adhered to it strongly. That circumstance alone is what spurred me being overprotective and what would lead to stalking eventually. Being the "man of the house", is at the core of my values
