I suppose you could question more clearly, what defines intelligence? And if you were AI vs biological with a time limit on your existence...how would that affect your wants?
Our brain evolved together with our bodies, inside our bodies. It's tied with our identity as humans, with our mortality, with the rest of our organs and how we feel them, with other humans as social animals, with instincts to preserve our body and reproduce in a certain way as main drive factors. I don't think you can take all that out of a brain and obtain smth even close to human conscience.
I think...it will be done...eventually....but the awareness of it's existence in relation to everything around it....will be strange to access and without emotions to describe it...or maybe there will be...but nothing that humans can relate to, perhaps.
Even now...people experience emotions differently, intensity and colored by their pasts and background noise,
Identity as humans?, is a moot point...unless you subscribe to 'otherkin' bullshit..then you run into mental illness and a whole crap load of bizarre. Preserve the body? I assume you mean to feed / water and clothe self dependent on weather...reproduction may or may not be an option dependent on resources.
Consciousness is not dependent on the body other than whatever is circulating in the system that will/ can affect cognitive function i.e. drugs etc. It is similar to the chicken egg argument; Consciousness first? Or awareness you are thinking?
