"You simply do not appear on your doctor's doorstep as an adult, and he gives you the diagnosis of AsPD. It does not happen."
I agree. It didn't happen that way for me either. I was in therapy for about 6 months before I was diagnosed.
"You have no reason to even end up there."
I had no idea I even had AsPD before I started therapy. I certainly didn't go there for that reason.
"You either end up in jail and they don't give a damn if you're sane or not unless it's a really serious crime, had it been you had been locked up now, either in prison or a mental hospital."
I have committed serious crimes, but I never got caught for them.
You can get diagnosed with AsPD without a criminal record. I'm not the only one who has been. There are others (on pf) who claim to have as well.
In the DSM IV you only needed 3 of the 7 traits to be diagnosed with AsPD. Criminality is only of those 7 traits and it's not required for a diagnosis.
While it's more common to get diagnosed with a criminal record, it is certainly possible to be diagnosed without one. There is nothing that indicates otherwise.
