Agreed, this hook needs some fresh bait. From my experience, blogs or other sorts of source material with a forum link connected to the place works better than advertising.

Beyond that, there's always trying to convince M.E. to put this place back onto the front page.

Most forums like that translate to having a forum everyone goes to and a trash bin that everyone ignores, kind of like having a spam filter in your email client. The only advantage to that is easier retrieval of ones that were mistakenly moved to the wrong place, but if someone aims to spam, they'll want it to go where the quality posts are.

It wouldn't be that different from how it is now.

Joined and immediately created a thread. Then started scrolling down to look at the other topics.

First thought? Oh...I guess this isn't that type of site. I go up to delete everything I had just typed. But something still draws me here...and here I am now reading this thread.
