Could you gaslight a psychopath?

But would they care? Or would they just mentally write each misremembering off as it happens because of their propensity to move on to more exciting issues/endeavours? I mean, essentially, the reason gaslighting works from an abuse perspective, is because the victim eventually begins to question their own grip on reality and, as a result, their self-worth. They dwell on the what they saw as facts, ruminating to the n-th degree. I don't get the feeling someone with ASD would do this. I would say that might be curious by the anomaly or aberration but mentally write it off just as quickly in favour of other schemes.

depends on the individual in question and how you play it

"and some can get angry easily. anger is always good."

This is definitely a characteristic of the subject in question. However, he is also very clever. I am not sure that statements like, "Are you sure that's what happened? That's not how I remember it." would work with him. However, he has an incredibly hot temper when facts are pointed out.

Long story short. I've come to the realisation that my career has stalled because I was outspokenly critical of the decision of the guy two levels above me to select his buddy's company as the solution provider for a solution they had no hope in delivering. That happened two and a half years ago. I've been stuck on the same paygrade for five years straight despite outperforming my KRAs ever year, and my boss immediately above me has recommended me for promotion twice only be told that I won't be promoted because I lack "emotional intelligence". Then I read "Snakes in Suits" by Hare and it all fell into place. I am planning to leave, but I'd like to do some damage for the sake of my colleagues before I do so.

What, so who is supposed to be the psychopath in this scenario? The guy two levels above you?

Denying someone a promotion does not a psychopath make.

How about denying promotions to basically anyone who adds value but doesn't do what he says when it's against company procedure and policy?

Still doesn't make him a psycho. More likely just an arsehole.

I received this email addressed only to me after trying to provide some helpful info as the PM on a project just the other day.

"Hi [Me]

Unsure why you think to answer on a question that I put to [CIO]?

please refrain from scratching where things does not itch."

Psychopath or arsehole...many would say that they are, in fact, synonyms.

British, South African, or Australasian?

Again, bad grammar and being an arsehole are not the diagnostic criteria of psychopathy.

If what you wanted was a promotion and a pay rise, then why didn't you just find out who he wanted you to be and be like that? Not every boss actually wants employees to make helpful suggestions.

Also, what's the point in revenge just as you are about to leave? Why wait two and a half years?

None of the above.
