I'm for moderation when it comes to excessive spamming, hacking and anything strictly illegal. It'd be a lot clearer if Luna posted some basic rules so we all know where she draws the line (and so that she suddenly won't ban half the forum on a moody day).
I've been around for almost 2 years. Lack of moderation never was a problem to me. There were plenty of trolls and spammers on the old forum too, and since the admin was absent no one had any power and no one bitched to anyone about the need for moderation. Who didn't like it fucked off and usually that wasn't a big loss.
I agree with Inquirer that it's not bad if spamming and hacking get deleted / prevented. Banning people here is difficult since a lot of us use tor for anonymity. However, it doesn't make sense to make a list of ban rules to prevent luna from going crazy. If the girl goes crazy, no rules would matter anyway, that's the problem, right? Irrational banning is just that. Fortunately people that got banned apart from dexter never stayed banned for long, although some of them still want to bring that up and complain about it. (Yeah ana, you know who you are.)
Lack of moderation is what makes this place special, it gives it that extra spice/edge. I don't want to come here and find a tamed community talking about philosophy and psychology or whatever the fuck. I come here not knowing what to expect because anything is permitted. People posting outrageous stories, embarassing nudes leaked, some stupid puppet with a funny name poking at someone's character flaws or whatnot. I like the kind of people that thrive in this unmoderated environment, it should be kept this way.
Luna promised she'd keep it like this, umoderated, when she offered to transport us here. If she breaks that promise, what makes you think she'd follow a stupid ban rules list.
its true the old forum did have absolutely no moderation at all.. but then again, i remember weeks of inactivity on that forum. this place is different. it's double the size of that place, and new species of trolls have evolved.
jim was an intereting case. he trolled here for ahwile. at one point he tried to convince me to let him have access to the server to "fix" something. He really tried hernestly, it was kind of odd that he thought he would have any chance of getting access. A couple days later people start telling me has plans to DDOS the server.
i think jim just got bored, and he wanted to push things to a point where he could really get some attention. it's natural, i believe that a human might have these feelings. but it's best for all of us that we not act on them, and the best way to detur such activity, is to eliminate it immediately
Yeah, but it wouldnt hurt to have some sort of document to throw in her face whenever she pulls a hissy fit or decides to "edit" the content of posts, either. And it would mean that at least theoretically, she has a code to uphold that is mutually agreed upon.
I'm not talking about an extensive rule list, either- just an agreement on her part not to ban people or posts for subjective reasons, such as her feelings getting hurt. The only things I think warrant a ban are crashing the site, relentless spam, or the posting of CP.
