This forum is a fight club. Every thread turns into a pissing match that has nothing to do with the post topic. If you like to argue and insult people then this is the place to be. If you want to hold a intelligent conversation and debate your logic with others than this is not the place you want to be.

The only way this place is ever going to become a place for people to come and talk about subjects that interest them and maybe learn something. Then Luna is going to have to have some form of moderation. But I don't see that happening because 90% of all the members come here to do what they can't do in real life to someone's face. And that is talk shit.

Confident people in real life. Don't have to go online and hide behind a computer to talk shit to someone.

I agree somewhat Whoameye.

It's true that a lot of the members of this community enojoy the lack of inhibitions here. They enjoy the drama, the witty come backs, perhaps even the malice, and cruelty, or perhaps they just like to be shocked by disgusting things. After all, Humans have proven to do stupid things in the past.

I remember this one time I agreed to watch a scary movie. Ever since, I've been afraid to go into our attic because I'm afraid I'll see that grudge creature. Why do people scar themselves by watching scary movies or give themselves PTSD by looking at disgusting pictures? It's because we have stopped evolving, and the idiots are among us.

It's true that confident people don't feel the need to "hide"  behind a computer, but on the other hand, what has confidence to do with wanting to be social or not? Not everyone is hiding. For some, the computer allows us to truly be ourselves despite what society or culture of the time says. Perhaps social psychologists will observe the writings on this forum as a true representation of Humanity when uninhibited. Either way, it's unfair to think everyone here is a coward.

I believe the people who come here to troll.. they are bored. Whatever, that's what this forum was before I arrived here, and I don't feel I have right to change it. So there won't be moderation here.

That being said, I do sometimes wish the community could be a bit more intellectual. I think in the future, perhaps a moderated sub-community with an ephasis on intellectual discussion and a bit more formal setting could allow the more serious types a place to discuss the topic without having to deal with trolls.

Even though trolls should be free here.. it doesn't mean the non-trolls have to deal with them.

I didn't mean to give the impression that everyone was hiding behind there computers. I was referring to the people who only log on to insult and talk shit to everyone. The drama queens (trolls)

I have seen a lot of new members join and leave within a few days because of the imature kids busting there balls and insulting every post they make. How do you expect to grow if we have so many holding us down. I agree a unmoderated forum would be ideal but the fact is most of us would like to have serious conversations and as it sits that is impossible to do. Unless you are happy with how it is. Then it's not a issue.

There are plenty of other options to discuss something of the more mentally stimulating caliber if that is truly what you desire Whobedat. No one is forcing you to stay here. Can't take the heat, get the f*ck out the kitchen.

Nothing I say should ever be moderated. All of my words deserve to be published unpolished, unedited. Only an ignorant simpleton would not appreciate my sentiment, not to say I've ever had a problem with others disregarding my sentiment before.

If the site continues to grow at the rate it has been, then it's inevitable that there will have to be sub-forums, or different boards for different topics. I don't agree with moderation (except in the three instances that Alter mentioned), but the current design is best suited to a smaller community. I thought the old forum was pretty cool – and I don't think that can be just nostalgia in my case, as I was only posting there for a short time – but as Luna said, this place is almost twice the size, and as a result has a different atmosphere.

I think the problem at the moment is that there is a hardcore group of individuals who spend their every waking moment on here, in some cases creating armies of puppets. I know this was the case on the old forum too, but now when you combine that with the sheer volume of other posters and the speed at which topics are being created and commented on, it is impossible to keep up. I enjoy the puppet games as much as anyone, but with the current size of the forum I reckon it would take over an hour a day of thread reading and chat lurking to truly get a handle on who everybody is and what's going on, and not everyone has that amount of free time.

Not that I blame Luna for wanting to grow and monetize the forum. If I were investing my time and money into running this place I would be doing exactly the same. But perhaps we are getting to a stage where the trolls are having a domino effect, and more are being attracted while the kind of people who would have posted on the old forum are being put off.

The real issue here is the size of the place, and there must be ways other than moderation with which to deal with that.

Aww. Don't mean to sound patronising, but that's so cute!

You know, Ed griped that a code couldn't ever be enforced, but there are good legal reasons to have one. In the Fightclub Rules I posted awhile ago, I included a clause stating explicitly that by posting here, you consent to getting "cyberbullied". Some countries make a big deal over this- but usually only if someone bothers to prosecute. I don't really think anyone posting here would do this- nor do I think they would have much of a leg to stand on, legally; to my knowledge, no one has ever been harmed in any real or significant way here, it's an anonymous forum ffs... But I'm not a lawyer, so I don't actually know. And Spatial did threaten it once, in a fit of narcissistic rage.

Luna could get in shit. A simple clause like that embedded within a ToS could mitigate that possibility altogether, very easily.

 Haha!

Those of you who're concerned about the apparent decline in quality of conversation here need not be too concerned. It's true that the quality of conversation on this forum waxes and wanes - it did on the old forum, too - but once the trolls leave (and it usually doesn't take them long to leave; ironically, the fact that this forum is unmoderated seems to discourage them from hanging around. Don't let their sheer number at any given time fool you - most of the trolls don't last very long because there aren't any rules to bravely defy from behind their computer screens) the quality of the conversation usually increases again.

Yeah, I guess unfortunately you're just going to have to wait it out. I hope that it does work out this way for you, as you've done an excellent job in relocating this place.
