Do you consider yourself to be a pathological or compulsive liar? If yes, why?

Do you lie more often online or off?

What are you reasons for lying?

What is the biggest lie you've told?

I only lie when I really have to get myself out of a bad situation

I make excuses quite often tho to avoid having to do stuff

I view liars as weak.

Lying just projects your desperation and could be turned against you very easily.

Glad this was moved from chat to the forum.

Do you consider yourself to be a pathological or compulsive liar? If yes, why?  IRL both pathologically and compulsively I think. I just know it's a learned behavior from when I was a toddler.

Do you lie more often online or off?  IRL and I just realized up until a year ago on line too at times.  Once I stumbled onto PF and found a place I could "safely" speak, there was no reason. I have never lied on a forum, in chat, on skype.

And for clarification purposes I am not speaking about saying I was off line when I was on line. That I do, we all do.  I do not lie about  myself, disorders, feelings, about others or anything else. I simply have found no need and I wont.

What are you reasons for lying?

IRL it's because I can't stop. Other times I don't even know I am lying and after the fact think to myself, "why the fuck did I just say that".  Other reasons for lying include everything under the sun. To gain something, manipulate a person into doing something, to make myself look better.  If you listed 100 reasons, they all would pertain to me.

What is the biggest lie you've told?  I lied about having DID and had an academy award performance.  A therapist, my parents, and others all believed it.

Here is an interesting article on pathological lying: http://www.newhealthguide.org/Pathological-Liar.html

I don't think I am a pathological liar because I always lie for a reason. My reasons are...

- to save my own ass

- to get out of doing something

- to shut someone up

- to avoid someone

- to do something I want to do but can't do without lying my way into it

- to avoid a confrontation that I can't be bothered dealing with

- to be polite

- to appear younger than I actually am

- to pretend to be someone I'm not

 - to get a reaction

- to manipulate people

- and just because I can

I lie more online than off because I socialize more online.

I can't remember the biggest lie I've ever told. If I remember it, I will post it.

Lying is not weak though. It can be beneficial to lie at times, especially when it gets you out of trouble.

Lying just projects your desperation and could be turned against you very easily.

So, you would never lie, even if it meant saving your own ass?

That's bullshit if you say yes.

Lying can used to manipulate others. I hardly think lying can be used against you very easily unless you suck at it.
