I prefer to keep an honest reputation, but lie to keep family and coworkers separate from my personal life. I rarely see the need to lie to strangers on the internet. I fudged excuses for a lot of deadlines and attendance requirements in college. I used to do it at jobs, but I guess I gotta act adult at this point.
Do you consider yourself to be a pathological or compulsive liar?
No. I can't be bothered. I do what I want so I don't have much to lie about . I mostly lie to get out of doing things I don't want to do. Occasionally I might lie to get someone to do what I want but it's not my main way to persuade. Like most of us, sometimes I fuck with people for fun but that's different.
Always interesting and tends to polarise the locals :)
I will make the truth bend if I need it to - there are times when one simply must lie/fabricate etc to manage a situation.
I see no benefit in lying online - hence I don't bother. I consider it rather important to have at least one outlet in life where you are free to be yourselves.... Without the social norms strictly applying although this is certainly one of the most narrow minded and judgemental places in the entire universe. Which in itself is so hilarious it is practically addictive....
So - back to the point.
I don't think I am a compulsive or pathological liar - it is a tool that I utilise if the situation requires it. In Systematics defence, I do think it is important to develop more constructive ways in which to manage a situation. Repeated lies can bring one undone in the longer term.
I don't really lie online - I am occasionally more polite than my first impulse so perhaps that is a form of deception.
My biggest lie was telling my first husband that I loved him and would remain faithful to him. Ridiculous really - that was never going to happen. He was nice enough but simply not sufficiently suited.
by Thrill KillDo you consider yourself to be a pathological or compulsive liar? If yes, why?
Do you lie more often online or off?
What are you reasons for lying?
What is the biggest lie you've told?
I may be considered a pathological liar according to the textbook definition. I'll often lie for no purpose, none even one that is obvious to me. I enjoy lying. However, I never lie online - that, I really can't see any point to! But considering that I also just stated that I'll often lie out in the real world for no purpose at all, you'll just have to trust me when I say I'm honest online.
The biggest lie I've ever told wasn't a single lie - it was a constellation of lies. My sister and I were being interrogated by the police and I had to talk us out of trouble.
