by MissCommunicationIT WAS BAD!! IT"S DISCRIMINATION AND IT"S NOT FAIR.
If you're a beautiful, red-headed or brunette woman, you might as well shoot yourself in the fricking head.
Well... you'll be able to win again when the west gets over its "we got to make everything fair and equal by discriminating" phase, and actually works towards equality for everyone. ;)
I find it fascinating. This person is the embodiment of a female pop icon - the hair, eyebrows, makeup, dress, etc. are all a flawless imitation of the packaged image created and sold. The beard (flawlessly groomed) creates dissonance. I can't understand such instinctive reactions against it when the concept itself is a complete deconstruction of the female ideal in media.
Besides, he can actually sing. If your main criticism is that you don't like his hair and outfit, that's saying nothing.
yes i can listen to it if i dont watch. when i watch i cant enjoy myself because it looks disgusting.
he can be a guy with a woman's skin and a beard, but in return i can feel disgusted by it.
it would be a funny thing if he didnt take it so seriously.
the main problem with "equality and tolerance" in american media, as well as a lot of other medias, is that people do not understand my second sentence in this post.
You disagree with the political statement that "tolerance" should be extended?
I wonder how deep you want to get into this. If you deny "tolerance" to a superficial representation of femininity when it has a beard, do you deny tolerance to that same superficial representation when it doesn't? And if you deny tolerance to a talented singer who doesn't present in a socially conventional way, why do you value the presentation of image over vocal talent?
And if you think it's a publicity sales pitch, why do you resent that in a populist contest designed to appeal to the masses in this specific case alone?
I dont deny the bearded woman the opportunity to represent himself. I don't deny him to go on stage, or to become a she with a beard. I deny her the respects she wants. Because i do not respect it. I do not respect that his weakness was glorified and made into something even more realistically represented and even used as something to be proud of.
His need to be like a woman is not something to be proud of. Its a defect. Its not relevant if its his/her/it(wtf is that thing anyway?) fault or not, its a defect either way. If he was living with this defect, but managing to go above it, then there is something to be proud of. Being different is rarely a good thing, because most people interpret it wrong.
The bearded freak felt that its his nature to be a woman. He needed to dress up as a girl when he was young. He gave into his urges and made it something to be proud of. Giving in to your urges is nothing to be proud of. Then you let these urges win over you. You are weak. If he become a woman, but was feeling perfectly fine to be a man, i would still be disgusted by his appearance, but it would be funny/interesting instead. How to determine which urges are good and which are not? Its simple really... just try them out in public. You could say thats comforting to the sheep mentality, but unless you live alone, you should at least pretend to respect the wishes of the people around you. You are in their culture and in their lives, you can't demand to be a 100% individual, unless you leave them. You have to be considerate. You are not alone in this world.
You might argue then that his urge was a good thing, people react positively. Yes after the "tolerance propaganda" they do. You get to hear the tolerance march, which only divides people. It divides people into little groups, sure the people in the groups are really close together and rely on each other, but you just separation as a whole. This is the point of this propaganda. Divide and conquer. As i said earlier about the american government.
What's your opinion of a person who was born female, who wants to be a pop star, who has fake hair (dyed, blowout, weave, extensions), fake nails (acrylic, nail polish), fake skin (artificial tan for whites, skin toner to seem paler for blacks/Asians), fake facial features (enhanced with makeup, waxed eyebrows, nose job), fake body (breast enhancements, padded bras, shaping underwear such as Spanx to wear under tight clothes in public), etc?
"How do you determine which urges are good and which are not?" - in the case of female pop stars, do you determine it by the gender they were born as? If they were born as a female, is the tailoring of the physical body to meet current social ideals considered justifiable, whereas if they were born as a male it's not?
