by hypercubeFrom what I'm reading now, the defining characteristic of BPD is "fear of abandonment."
Turn that into "anger at losing control of the other person's affection" and you have sociopathy.
But in general, I think the two are opposite. One seems focused on self-destruction, the other seems focused on destruction of others.http://psychcentral.com/disorders/borderline-personality-disorder-symptoms/

For whatever it's worth, I was diagnosed as BPD as a teenager and reading those two lists I relate to the same things on both. I'm not suicidal or paranoid like a borderline, and I'm not sadistic or actively destructive like a sociopath.
But the parts about feeling empty and having no remorse are the same to me. The parts about changing sense of self and deceitfulness/manipulation are the same to me. The parts about impulsivity are the same on the list itself.
Disclaimer I don't really believe in this sort of "diagnosis" as anything more than a potentially useful paradigm.
Don't worry about it: most of us have some of the traits of both disorders. I'm glad you didn't get bogged down by the diagnosis: I'd be quite wary of anyone who'd diagnose a teenager with a personality disorder.
