It's not even that long.
Something reminded me recently of a kid I saw a few years ago when I took a semester at a community college. There was a very large, very low functioning mentally handicapped guy in my College algebra class. He was given unlimited time for exams and other special privileges so he could complete his work. He even had a chaperone that walked her around the first 2 weeks. He told people he wanted to go to Johns Hopkins and become an RN.
How are his grades, and how functional is he otherwise?
I technically had special privileges at college through Disability Services (mostly double testing time and a few extra chances to not be kicked out back when my GPA wasn't the best).I'm sure people will disagree with me, but I don't think someone like this should be going to college for a career like that. He wasn't capable of doing even schoolwork on his own, he deffinately wouldn't be capable of taking care of other people.
What does he have other than additional testing time?
I only went to that CC for one semester so IDK what happened to him but I can't imagine someone who needs other people to tie his shoes possibly got into John's Hopkins.
He just needs to wear laceless shoes.
The worst part of this senerio was everyone telling him how "great" it was for him to pursue his dream. That isnt great, this is a mentally disabled person investing thousands of dollars into a future they are incapable of obtaining.
It really depends on how severe the retardation is.
Low functioning. One specific example I remember was an exercise where we were given a list of functions, and a list of variables and told to find the y value of each function for each x value and he couldnt wrap his head around the concept of replacing the x in the equation with the numbers given. I'm not sure what grade he got in the class.

It seems like an he has an issue with reification, if so there's really no hope for him as he'll always be incapable of dealing with Complexity.
Dead weight.

How is he in subjects that aren't math?
Maybe within the large stature of this simplistic man beats the heart of a poet.

Now you have me searching for poems written by downsy people.

Not worth it . nevermind.
Against the notion of disability services though...
I did see a clause that was effectively "You cannot interrupt this student's behaviors" for ADHD kids and shit. It dragged down the entire class significantly more than "Unlimited Testing Time" ever could.

im surprised he was in your class. he should be in a special needs separate class. he must know hes different, right?

It was Math 101 at a community college. There are no special needs versions of classes
