Was distracted on the 21st from my cat having such a good day while the painkiller was still in effect.
...the painkiller wore off today. 😞
I adopted a 12yo rescue a few months ago, best thing I’ve ever done. You wouldn’t believe she’s 12, she plays like a kitten and wants constant attention, got so much energy. I’m tempted to believe they actually made a mistake in her age and she’s maybe about 5 or 6 but don’t wanna get my hopes up

Mental age from my experience with animals tends to be over self-perception of bodily health as a route to maturity, kind of like how it works for people.
My cat who is almost ten behaved like he did when he was like... three or five.
...then the painkiller wore off, he had a day of protest as he spent time telling me about it instead of being stoic while still well rested from before, then as of today he's right back to where he started.
He's probably going to need a tooth extracted. 😭
I am getting increasingly worse at updating this. At least when I did Number of the Day I had something consistent to cling to, but it's been 10 months since his last number.
More d20 through Pathfinder, more Sopranos, more pet politics, more time spent on the computer and with family. It's been pretty weird sleeping semi-regularly lately since the weather shifted towards something more comfortable.
Cat's back to the vet today to get blood work and urinalysis, as well as an oral painkiller so that he can have better quality of life. Ever since his day of painkiller he's been trying to live up to that, as if that really good day for him set the bar. Watching him try to eat when he's clearly hungry but also in tooth-pain is like watching an argument with himself, and when I tried softening the food he stubbornly insisted on sticking with the solid stuff.

For shame. >:(
My cat is on Onsior right now which has given him some good rest and energy, but based on how it affects their liver a cat can only be on it for three days max.
After that is Gabapentin, which kind of scares me a little to read about.
The results on his Bloodwork and Urinalysis are... barely passing grades in some areas, he barely made the cut for proving he can be on anesthetic for the tooth removal down the road. He's definitely an older cat now, mostly as healthy as he is from morale, love, and personal satisfaction.

If the tooth extraction doesn't happen soon then he may potentially be unable to have it done? What then?

No idea.
Onsior seemed to stick to his system well into a day later, but now that the pain is back he keeps expecting that I'll take him back to the vet. Starting the Gabapentin today, but the question is moreover administering it.
I tried handing him the capsule as is first since he has some elements of pica and eats food whole over how his teeth are now as is. He... still tried chewing it, since it was a gel capsule, so that failed.
Next was mixing it in yogurt, which with me mixing it together as best I could he ignored portions that I suspect had more of it mixed into it.
Going to try it with a small bit of ground tuna tomorrow, and going to see if I can get him to have the rest of it further into the day.
My kitten is never going to the vet, fuck that shit.
Not even to get microchipped?
