@chai Look at the feeling you had in that moment. Try to evoke it. Feel it in your whole body. What is the feeling? Is it just one feeling or are there others mixed in as well? Name it and stay on that feeling. Take time, at least 1-2 minutes just feeling the present emotion. Then: Where have you felt that feeling before? Where were you? What happened? Feel the feeling while you imagine your former self in that moment of the past. Feel the corresponding emotion of the past in whatever situation comes up from the depth of your mind. Recognize the desires and basic needs that were hurt in that moment and then give yourself from the past what you needed. It was probably respect, acceptance and love or some shit like this. Probably some shit with your parents. Be kind to yourself. This shit you are feeling is obviously some deeper shit from the past, it isn't at all about what just happened. Good luck.

Today at work some guy called me a promising young woman and it kinda pissed me off
I didn't show it or anything but I in my mind I was immediatly like "ew don't call me that, I ain't promising you or anyone else shit"
I know that's not exactly what it means but I feel like there is some connotation of expectation and it really rubbed me the wrong way for some reason
I'm not sure how to process my reaction entirely or how to put it into words
I would follow up, and ask for the chance to prove your potential, such as assigning you to a team project, after which he can write a formal letter of recommendation for your work to use when seeking a raise or promotion.

Maybe your anger was due to being talked down to. Like this person's opinion mattered in some way and you would be so grateful to them, yes massa, I will be wonderful one day.
