Immune system deficiencies, decreased energy overall, and addiction risks beyond just 'habit forming' to start off. Watching people detox the stuff's no joke, and watching my folks and a roommate of mine try going cold turkey was enough to inspire me to do a project on it for my 'Psychology of Addiction' class years back (I also got to see Systematic try to kick the stuff when we went to Thailand, a place that refuses to sell caffeine).

Caffeine's up there with salt, dairy, and sugar when it comes to addictive food sales, and it hits harder than those do. Typically with how they package it it's delivered to the person in drink-form... but caffeine is also a diuretic, meaning that you're actually becoming more dehydrated through it's consumption. With the energy it works up as well you'll be burning through your stores of water much faster, and as we've seen with energy drinks this can lead to a vicious cycle similar to that of Salt and Alcohol, both for the endless cycle and through how it can trick the reward center of your brain.

Caffeine's a mess, it's best you quit that shit beyond occasional use. For myself it's worse than it is for other people over how it can make my schizo-symptoms harder to control, but witnessing it from others doesn't look fun either as they become adjusted to it, as they require it to 'feel normal'. It's not as bad as cigarettes, but it's an over the counter drug sold to us in the form of food and drink (and even soap). Their body gets this like... itch for it as their blood pressure and REM cycles get all fucked up without it.

Lol how much coffee do people around you guzzle? Overhydration can kill you too but water is still healthy. I'd say sugar is a far worse substance than caffeine, and even then it's down to the timing of how it's metabolised (which is why you can eat fruits but should stay away from candy)

You're completely right in that caffeine is an addictive drug but coffee is still very healthy, and absolutely not hard to use in moderation. It protects against liver cancer, possibly against heart disease and helps prevent alzheimer's disease. A cup of coffee a day is an excellent habit, just don't overdo it.

I'm down to one coffee and/or soda per day.  Otherwise, it's water (or sometimes vodka).  Is that ok?  My dreaming has been very vivid and I can remember them better.  They have also managed to confuse my sense of reality sometimes, even so far as to consider "waking life" as just another dream.

However, I've also added supplements: L-Carnitine, L-Tyrosine, DHA, and some other stuff, which I have been using to work with ADHD, etc.

A cup at key points of the day's enough to get people hooked, but the energy drink crowd's a bit more prone to guzzling. The coffee drinkers I see going deep end tend to go for higher potency ones, a matter of quality over quantity.

Both don't look fun down the line.

No way, caffeine is loads worse for you than sugar.

Both are pretty bad, but the onset of caffeine addiction's a lot faster and more jarring.

You're better off getting those health benefits from other byproducts, especially if you're the sort of person to add a lot of shit to it.

We're talking about different usage patterns.

Overhydration can kill you too but water is still healthy. I'd say sugar is a far worse substance than caffeine, and even then it's down to the timing of how it's metabolised (which is why you can eat fruits but should stay away from candy)

My point is that coffee can be used responsibly, and even yields benefits. Sugar much less so.

Moderation defeats the purpose from how their usage is designed for. They want it to have that kick, they want it to wake them up, and as they become adjusted to it they'll require more and more to get to that same point of functionality.

Why drink coffee if it stops waking you up?

Actually, I've considered changing to tea for the theanine benefits.

Moderation prevents you from needing to up the dosage. Drugs don't have to revolve around addiction?

Moderation down the line stops waking people up, unless you're meaning more of a waxing and waning model where you detox from the stuff fairly regularly.
