I think TPG is my new favorite character.

 He's always been mine.

The mark of mental illness is inhibited function in the individual. That is what all disorders are defined by at their base.

And regarding personality disorders, they are marked by the belief that everyone around them should adhere to what they believe and behave as they say they should.

that’s the understanding I’ve come to with it anyway.

As far as depression goes, an inability to passively enjoy things could be an indicator but, someone with depression could also passively enjoy things so much so that they delude themselves into being fine when they are not. Addicted to escapism and destraction in any various form. A common one being maladaptive daydreaming.

The problem with using this symptom of lack of enjoyment as a defining feature of depression is also evident in the scope of someone’s developed tolerance for their own depression symptoms and lack of normalcy. After a while you forget entirely what it was like to be normal and don’t know what’s missing and don’t notice the unusual depression symptoms in their place- as unusual. you get so used to it, you don’t know any better.

My therapist calls this concept the tunnel vision effect, when you don’t know what’s on the other side waiting for you when you get better because you don’t know what you’re striving for or that there is an end to the tunnel at all, what the light of day feels like, or looks like. Etc.

man has an inveterate tendency to extrapolate his experience onto the universe, it certainly is interesting that despite the vastness of the universe, the physical laws that hold true on earth are automatically assumed to be true for a point in space that is billions of light years away

it is thus markedly possible that all knowledge is merely an emanation of the ego

I like your reasoning but it's very metaphysical, maybe physics isn't the best example for your point

it is not metaphysical, and physics is perhaps the best example for my point, as it is the mechanical laws which hold true on earth that are extrapolated to a point in space billions of light years away

as a general rule, only 1 out of ten thousand (perhaps this is a generous estimate) protestors have thought the matter to its logical conclusion, the rest are present for two reasons, the first being to satiate their vanity by way of validation from other protestors, the second being to alleviate boredom

studying at a college merely allows people to articulate their stupidity

sometimes a concept, or a theory will appear before a group, a concept which will have a fundamental precept so absurd that people will instinctively dismiss it without even considering the points being made, these are the same sort of people who would laugh at the theory of relativity when einstein first proposed it, and then 20 years later accept it as self evident
