So apparently "priority 1" on the transplant list isnt a single spot, it is a group of about 20 people. Alice's MELD score was 27 yesterday so she was in priority 1 for the last two days, but not the most severe case. Her score has moved up to 35 putting her above a lot more people. Although her personal doctors were saying they felt it would only be one to two days to get a liver, the doctor who works with the transplant organization is saying it could be as long as a week.

Man, what a weird form of passive competition.

Its more ao designed that way to account fir individual's conditions fluctuations, and who is geographically in the best spot to receive the liver sooner. Although the list is for the entire east coast i also just found out the liver would have to be within 250 miles to get to her while still in a usable state.

Sc is pretty boring.

How do they even measure the ranks of human life through a MELD score? What's the criteria for if your life is or isn't saved?

Its a score for how soon a person needs a transplant based on their current condition. It can fluctuate depending on how they are responding to other treatments while waiting. 6 is lowest, 15 is the threshold to need a liver transplant, 40 is the highest- needs an immediate transplant.

Sc is pretty boring.

They found a liver for Alice. There is a patient nearby, a car accident victim. The family decided to take him off life support and donate his organs, and his liver is a match for Alice. The surgery is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. They are confident the surgery will happen but it is not a 100% sure thing- i dont know what the variables are right now.

I know the donor's family must be going through a lot right now and I am so thankful they choose to donate their loved one's organs.

YAY YAY YAY ALICE WILL LIVE IM SO HAPPY THA ALICE IS GOING TO LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and also, his is exactly why everyone should donate their organs when they die. :3 i actually am for organs being harvested from all the dead, even if the person didnt want it, because the living is more important than the dead. take alice for example- what if no one gave her an organ? alice would die simply because "taking organs mean" im just so happy, alice is going to be just fine. you will see her soon peach!

stony brook is a really good school
