Feeling Free= Having Control

Missbehaved has a knack for the nuances and subtlety of emotions, which I lack...( not always..lol...requires focus..but not entirely beyond me either)

Feeling Free= Having Control

..question being...control of what/ whom? So...thoughts?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also..slightly unrelated...desperation for connection, can make strange bedfellows of the mind/ heart and in some cases...it is quite fascinating to trace the denial and coping mechanisms...

Freedom and control are hand-in-hand in subsistence-based communities.

Example: You are living in some remote part of the world. You learn the patterns of your environment and how to control certain factors. Wait, no...that's not freedom. You're actually confined to circumstance.

The degree to which you value things determines your freedom. If you don't want to lose your possessions, you work so that your job allows you to retain them. That's not freedom, that's a trade-off. If you get diagnosed with a mental illness, and the government pays for you, and you don't have to lift a finger to benefit the market...again, that's not freedom. It's a trade-off. Freedom can only exist with a lack of obligation.

The next question begged is: Freedom from what?

What you define as having value is the cross each bears...and whether or not 'things' are of value is a question of debate in my eyes.

How is it debatable? Every reaction is based on value.

I am not spinning, but rather casually probing your ideals of value.

As you said, "What you define as having value is the cross each bears...and whether or not 'things' are of value is a question of debate in my eyes."

Values can be debated, because they are relative to the person who adheres to them. But that is tangential.

The statement I disagreed with most in this thread was, "Feeling Free= Having Control," because in order to control things, you must sacrifice possibility. And in the process of building that and maintaining that, you are not free, but rather a slave to an urge you have for control. Your values are expressed in statements such as that. I was merely remarking that it is not freedom if one is compelled to do something, i.e. have control.
