They flesh out some characters beautifully (eg Penguin and Riddler <3) and leave others bland and boring.
They are probably planning to kill him off and then resurrect him with the doctor's loving touch.

You're still following the show and able to extrapolate from the way the other characters have evolved that Clayface likely won't stay so boring and one dimensional in future episodes, aren't you?
