Why do I stand up here? "I stand upon my desk to remind myself that we must constantly look at things in a different way.”

Looking At Things From Another's Perspective

What is the point of learning to look at things from another perspective? Why should we consider the view point of other people? Why is it a good idea to consider our own viewpoint might be limiting?

Can't we just figure it all out on our own? Shouldn't we just trust all our own judgment of the world and the people around us?

Isn't it better to just think you know enough already?

The hard way of learning the truth is better, right?

It may not get you the whole truth, or even a sliver of the truth, but at least you won't be made a fool of, yeah?

At least your ego gets to stay in tact! Because let's face it, that's what strong people do. Protect themselves from risk to ego damage. What has anyone ever learned by risking being made a fool of?

What has anyone ever learned from failing?

Probably how to succeed. That might be another way to look at it.

I wish that were a srs ad.

I love old encyclopedias. I would buy a set just bc they're such handsome books.

You kids probably don't remember what it was like to own a set of handsome books, do you?

Now I want that set for my birthday  :(

this is has nothing to do with the thread. i know you've done posts like this before, but in this case it probably goes deeper than that. i feel like you're disgruntled that her threads get so much attention and that she's the type that likes to prod and be brutally honest. i notice you've been either avoiding her or not being enthusiastic about  initiating contact. you might be afraid she'll read you good. anyways, i didn't come here to derail because i actually like her threads, so i don't care to read your response on here or go back and forward. so take it to chat if you're confused.

one viewpoint is only based on one experience. having a glimpse into only one experience out of the billions in the world is no better than being schizophrenic.

i think that one person could, but it would require a lot of drug use, near death experiences, and outer body experiences, if you know what i mean

Isn't it better to just think you know enough already?

that's arrogance

a lot of (read: most) people find it much harder to draw from the lives of other people. technically, all humans are exactly the same. it may be harder to come to that realization, but everything after that realization becomes much easier.

failing may teach you but obviously most people prefer to succeed first. no one likes difficulties.

Whoa. I thought the joke was keeping in line with the unwillingness of one person not bothering to try to see another's point of view. The wife who's always right. No?

Have you been avoiding me Tryp? I figured you and I have just never really clicked or something. Never thought to read any more into it.

This brings up another question.

How easily can you be persuaded to trust another person's point of view over your own?

Do you easily switch sides if someone gives you an opposite opinion of someone over your own?
