SHIT! I remember Plumb! "Send Angels" right?
I've heard of Stavesacre, but not really into them at the time, though friends were. Starflyer 59 is still one of my favorite bands. There was Luxury, Supertones, Driver 8, um...too many.
I grew up in the south also
Mainly remember this guy, Jimmy Swaggart. Hilarious sex-scandal too.
Also Billy Graham, who was also kinda insane but at least publicly denounced segregation. So he was alright.
But I can confirm that growing up in the south meant a lot of insane bible-belt "entertainment". Including "Polycarp and pals" which was a psychotic mix of "Indians", some guy that owned a Gumbo factory, and a woman that was some legendary mechanic. Maybe that was just Louisiana though.
Yes, that's right I believe. Did you ever hear of Michael W. Smith's attempt to have a "Christian nightclub"? That whole time of my life was just so ignorant and naive. I forgot about this but a friend of mine from that time of my life won a Grammy in one of those Christian categories a couple years ago.
I just saw your comment on Supertones, I need to dig up my albums this weekend. The way more hardcore stuff wasn't my thing, Zao was popular with those edgy kids.
