Cute but I don't get it. Who exactly is the cat, the mouse, the bird and the fish? I be literal like that.

Turncoats is even the more common and older definition.
Furthermore the context of the word is important, if it is used when discussing physics and governing laws assuming someone is using the most common or the contextually appropriate definition shouldn't be too much to ask for.
He wasn't talking about physics. Do you even remember the conversation you jumped into? XD

Maybe it's simply not relevant.

So I guess you see yourself as a wingman? This is pretty honest and insightful but maybe a bit of a copout so you don't have to take any responsibility.
There's tons of room for me to blame myself in a symbiotic relationship. I end up blaming myself for both mistakes I make and for those who I'm with. I have this idea that I should have seen it coming or that I somehow caused it through influence or triggering a chain of events that lead to it.
A lot of past accquaintences and relationships began as mentor/mentee.
You want a feeling of control but you give your control away?
It's not gone, it's indirect. Influence is still a factor, but I use it to have the things they do come out closer to my projections, recommending things that will benefit us both. It's closer to an advisor's strength instead of a king's.
I see more to gain through influence compared to power, and it plays into my skillset.
I fear you lose yourself in the goals of others without ever knowing what you want for yourself alone.
I've already lost that.

Regarding free will debate: As long as no other human controls my will, my will is free enough for me. Not sure why others aren't satisfied with that.
They are controlling your will, just not directly.
