Are you a racist?

of course, everyone is. but if you go by the other definition (that brings power into), no.

i think as long as race exists as a concept, everyone that acknowledges it is going to end up being racist to some degree. humans  are usually too simple to not eventually gravitate towards that when it comes to the categories.

the categories are arbitrary anyway. most genetic variation is within races, not between them, so that makes it look even less necessary. it's really based on appearance. for some reason, science moved on but the rest of society is still using an outdated concept from the 1700s.

I think that as far as baby making goes, drastically differing races shouldn't mix with each other and I don't shy away from racist puns, but overall I couldn't be arsed to hate any particular group of people for as long as their respectable members act as such.

Sounds about my approach too.

The second one allows for more than the belief of your own superiority.

Both prejudice and discrimination are negative attitudes or behaviors towards an individual (or individuals) simply because of their belonging to a group.Does it not stem then that one who is prejudice or discriminates against someone for their belonging in a group naturally deems that group inferior in some way?

I’m not trying to debate semantics here. I was genuinely interested in hearing what else you thought racism might mean.

Race is such a poor and inaccurate generalization mechanism, the times when it works as an accurate predictor it's often due to people subscribing to racist beliefs and perpetuating them or due to underlying socioeconomic conditions.

"Prejudice is just an opinion that isn't based on actual experience."

One could say the same about racism.

"There's racism for instance where another is seen as better than themselves, not just worse (ie: asians are mathematical genius ninjas). "

I think what you are talking about are stereotypes. I was wondering if that was your line of reason. Stereotypes are generalizations that can be racist (thinking a person has undesirable traits based on their race) or they can also be observations that don't necessarily put a race in an inferior place but still dismiss individuality over group traits. Generalizations are often considered racist for that reason. Saying all Indians like curry, or to use your example, Asians are good at math, could be considered racist as obviously it is untrue, though technically these statements are not outright insulting - just uneducated.

EDIT: I think this means we agree.

Well yeah, but in the US it's used primarily for "yellow people with squinty eyes". It's closer to racial slang than anything, like those in the US that call all black people "African American", and those who still call Native Americans "Indians".

Accuracy's second place when put up against conversational shorthand, and hearing it all the time makes it easier and easier to overlook.

Is that even a question?  In 2016??  LOL.

You can be  either a racist or a braindead imbecile.  No middle-ground, sorry.

Of course i'm a racist.

Mind you, these days i find myself verging into full-blown zionism - i better watch that before it gets outta control.

Prejudice is just an opinion that isn't based on actual experience. There's racism for instance where another is seen as better than themselves, not just worse (ie: asians are mathmatical genius ninjas).

Racism at it's core is responding to differences based on race. As much as one can use it to build themselves up, it can also be used to tear themselves down, spread fear, split themselves away from others, etc. It can make for more than just displays of superiority, it can make for anything within the range of assumption.
