Its a theoretically interesting topic but, when actually carried out it's just an arduous task with seldom reward. Perhaps voluntary torture even. Why do it when you could just go to the beach and read a book by the ocean? Maybe have some ice cream?
Sadism is it's own reward. It's inherent in most if not all people on some level, and when empowered it tends to make for a more liberated, less repressed individual. Seeing someone either squirm in their own pain or failure, or to see them mindlessly embrace it through being enabled is what makes many degrees of otherwise annoying, cringe-worthy people worth any amount of investment, similar to the appreciation of a good B Movie.
It's also easier to justify it if you can convince yourself that they "have it coming". Of course it's not really about that, it's about validating yourself for enjoying something people see as taboo. It's not just a matter of personal guilt, it's also a matter of impression management.
