Still got me muted, Tone?
"Deleting posts without cause is pretty terrible. If they can take those down, why not any other posts they happen to not like as well?
There needs to be a firmly established line so that it's not just whimsy."
That is when being able to return a post back to its original state would be a handy tool. Deleting dox is by no means terrible, unless you are of a wonky moral compass.
Because she didn't think of it, obviously. Or decided it wasn't important enough. Ask her.
Again, you're free to look up that topic. But you can't say it didn't happen just because you don't remember it or weren't there. lol Reality doesn't work like that.
However, let's play with this notion for a moment. Let's say there is no rule about doxxing and never was. Then TC was in the right for leaving it up, anyways. Because if doxxing is not against the rules, taking it down would be an abuse of his mod powers. Which brings me back to Tony's account of what he would have done in the situation.
There are no terms of service for this website, so technically, a mod that does not share the sentiment of "Delete by Request" can delete dox if they believe it detrimental to the forum's well-being, and that includes the members of this community. Evidently, this website has no danger of doxing infringing rules, therefore, there is no right or wrong.
Only conscience.
And hereby the defense for my client Tony!
It surprises me how many want to be moderator. But most are young. Most haven't pathetically lived half their lives on Internet communities. It's like all this is new to them. It's almost cute. Being a moderator is not a privilege, it is unpaid work. The power is not real, because 1) it is the Internet, 2) you always have the dictator that can rid of you in a heartbeat.
What also surpises me is that we have a consensus rule about doxing. I think it is actually a quite sane rule. It could please almost anyone. I don't think you will get many matches on googling sociopath consensus. Just having someone even say "consensus" here is weird.
But I guess this is the kind of weirdness I prefer.
