I'm finding it harder and harder. You all know that one of my main weaknesses is arguing with fools, here and elsewhere, but I'm losing interest in that as it's clearly a huge waste of time. Stupid people generally remain stupid, and continue to prefer stupidity, and will likely never realize their stupidity. The truth just makes them angry, so it's pointless to point it out, except as an ego game.

There is a Kaczynski that lies dormant somewhere inside me, and he's getting antsy. I feel a near constant intense rage lately, which I know stems from my own sense of perceived powerlessness with regards to this.

I have so much to say, so much, but right now I am unsure how and where to say it, so in the meantime the rise in temperature is threatening to boil me alive, from the inside out.

What isn't a waste of time?

"Stupid people generally remain stupid, and continue to prefer stupidity, and will likely never realize their stupidity. The truth just makes them angry, so it's pointless to point it out, except as an ego game."
Stupidity or the believed lack thereof is a bias more than anything, the former typically a trait label that's thrown at others who stubbornly refuse to share another's point of view. Most who believe that the majority of others are stupid are actually just victims of Illusory Superiority who are also prone to a generalized form of social allergy with some xenophobic elements.

So you're saying that there's no such thing as stupidity? Also, why xenophobic?

"So you're saying that there's no such thing as stupidity?"
There's the belief of it, but what measures it is relative based on one's own believed sense of intelligence and what constitutes intelligence, a comparison each person bases on criteria of their own making instead of a specific gauge. It's not so much that other people are stupid so much as that we believe they are based on reasons of our own. When we call someone "stupid", it really says more about ourselves.

"Also, why xenophobic?"
I'm probably thinking of a different word, but I was meaning it in line with disliking if not fearing that which they find strange or unlike themselves. A lot of what comes out of people's mouths related to this are irritated thoughts or even violent notions towards those that they have labeled as "Stupid" (sometimes even pity). Save for the self-loathers, people tend to believe they are unlike that which they've thrown into the "Stupidity" category, and from that all sorts of thoughts surface about this group they've created.

It roots largely from intolerance.

Again, it's not that it "doesn't exist", it's that it is relative and judged based on your own idea of what "intelligence" is, a factor of belief. The guy might be slow in that area (assuming he wasn't tired or otherwise affected from something unrelated), but otherwise quite skilled in other ones.

Perhaps taxi scheduling isn't his calling?

Xenophobic means hatred of foreigners XD

So working on the hypothesis that stupidity doesn't exist, consider this recent conversation between myself and this star of an employee at a taxi firm:

Me: I'd like to book two taxis, one on at 12am on Sunday 13th, and another later that day at 11pm.

Taxi Idiot: But why do you want two?

Me: Because I finish work at midnight on the Saturday and at 11pm on the Sunday.

Idiot: But they're only an hour apart.

Me: No, they are 23 hours apart. I work from 14.00 to 24.00 on Saturday and 13.00 to 23.00 on Sunday.

Idiot: But do you want the taxi to take you straight back to work then at 11? How will you get there and back in an hour?

Me: A day has 24 hours in total, generally divided into two periods of 12, am and pm. I would like the first taxi for 12am at the very start of Sunday, and the second taxi for 11pm at the very end of Sunday.

Idiot: But 11 comes before 12, so the second taxi will have to come first won't it? Do you mean it's for two different people?

This continues for an epic four minutes before I ask to speak to somebody else, who gets it instantly.

If there is no such thing as stupidity then what would you class this as, intellectually challenged??

"to assume that someone who is ignorant in one area must have some sort of intellectual deficiency is both simple-minded and quite shortsighted"

Slow in the area of figuring out hours in a day? Lmao. You think some guy who doesn't understand after 5 minutes of explaining that 12 am and 11 pm are 23 hours apart in a day can't be called stupid? I think we can all agree there is an average ability of people to work with simple concepts, a basic level of people understanding words, or doing simple math stuff like 1+1=2. What's generally known as intelligence is the ability to solve problems, and when someone has trouble solving problems this simple, that the average person can solve right away, it means they are stupid. Doesn't matter if they can play the whole fucking 5th symphony backwards. "Stupid" (well different translations I suppose) is a word used for people like that for thousands of years.

BTW, ret's recent threads are just old threads from the nabble forum that he randomly copy-pasted here. It's not his stuff.

There is irony to be found in a "debate" over intelligence, where the same mistake is made throughout.  Turncoat had the idea in a somewhat broader sense, but it is very specific here and a common culprit in numerous other disagreements: semantics.  Ignorance is intrinsic to having intelligence.  Those smart enough to know how stupid they are generally have a better handle on things.  Have you heard "when you assume you make an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'?"  Discussion often explodes into conflict because there is that unspoken assumption that everyone is using the same dictionary in the discussion.  It can't be a foregone conclusion, if you wish to have meaningful outcomes.  This is true almost to the point of tautology.

actually that's not what it means. if the person struggles with tasks like that overall then yea i guess, but being below average in one area doesn't necessarily mean stupid.

i used to get confused telling the time :(

to assume that someone who is ignorant in one area must have some sort of intellectual deficiency is both simple-minded and quite shortsighted, and ironically a sign of idiocy in a person lol
