I May Have Cancer

So, anyway, I found out recently that there is a possibility I have breast cancer. There is a lump in one of my breasts and, after having an ultrasound done, the doctor recommended I have a mammogram and a biopsy. I'm booked in to have the mammogram soon. Hopefully I don't have cancer, but the possibility exists.

I was reading about breast cancer on wikipedia:

"Survival rates in the Western world are high; for example, more than 8 out of 10 women (85%) in England diagnosed with breast cancer survive for at least 5 years."

At least 5 years? That's considered a high survival rate?

It doesn't take long for 5 years to go by. If that's all the time I've got left then I'm fucked.

- Do you know anyone with breast cancer who lived longer than 5 years? If yes, how long did they live for?

- If you know someone who died of breast cancer, what were their symptoms before they died?

If it turns out I have cancer, you can all celebrate. I know some of you here don't like me, so it will probably be good news to you.

If this were just attention seeking, then I'd say I have a hell of a lot more to worry about than cancer. Fortunately, that's not the case. Well, it's unfortunate if you consider the alternative (the possibility of having cancer isn't exactly that appealing either).

I may seem screwed up to some of you, but I'm not that fucking screwed up.

Cancer is a Fungus - Tullio Simoncini, MD Oncologist.

Those 'statistics' are a bluff, a scare tactic, and I can guarantee you that you're far more likely to die by the hand of these so-called doctors, than from the cancer itself.

Well, do those tests and don't neglect what the docs tell you to do. And yeah, I know women with breast cancer that are ok now many years after it got treated. (Also know some who died unfortunately...)

From what I know 5 years free of cancer after the cancer got treated is a landmark docs use to consider cancer cured...It doesn't mean that within 5 years you're fucked. It means if you survive 5 years you'll probably be ok and the treatments were efficient.

Cancer is really shitty and I hope you don't have it. I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemies. But breast cancer isn't a death sentence, if you don't neglect it.
