If I handcrafted you a handbag to carry stuff in, and I never made another like it ever again? It'd be arguably "unique".
As for the rest of it, I'd imagine a trait of something being unique rather than the whole of it, at least for the sake of odds. Even the handbag above is like other handbags, but what makes it unique is that a factor of it isn't able to be replicated.

That's the unreplicatable factor of the example. There's also those that go nuts about how things like factory rejects, that stitches being in the wrong place or the like make it "unique". The "experience" of an object can show wear and tear that'd be difficult to replicate, which sentimentalists can see as a uniqueness, especially if someone gave it to them (ex: a football jersey or letterman's jacket).
Uniqueness is perceptually sentimental, and matters as much as the person is willing to dissect into it. Unique could mean one of a kind just as easily as it could mean slightly different from usual, whether it's because someone had it or because something made it not according to template.
Maybe it's sort of like trying to identify perfection, except instead of a range of "good", it's a range of "different".
