Are narcissists selfaware?

Apparently, we usually are:

http://www.latimes.com/science/sciencenow/la-sci-sn-how-to-identify-a-narcissist-with-one-simple-question-20140805-story.html

A new study describes a single question that appears to be nearly as
accurate at identifying narcissists than a commonly used narcissist
diagnostic test 40 items long. And that single question is this:
"To what extent do you agree with this statement: I am a narcissist.
(Note: The word 'narcissist' means egotistical, self-focused and vain.)"

The parenthetical definition of narcissism is part of the carefully
worded question, so the meaning of the word is clear and nothing is
sugarcoated. Responders are asked to select a number between 1 (not very
true of me) to 7 (very true of me).The upshot is, if you think you are a narcissist, you are probably right.(If you'd like to try it for yourself, the researchers have set up a quick interactive quiz for the public to take.)

To an extent, Narcissists are generally more self-aware than most neurotypicals. They are meticulously self-aware, usually. The reason why it's considered a disorder is because they aren't generally capable of being aware of the issues associated with extremely egotistical behavior. For example, a Narcissist would be fine saying, "Yeah, I'm a complete Narcissist. But I see no problem with that." or "Yeah, I'm a complete Narcissist. But that's not really a big deal. Not enough for me to care, anyways."

But people in general have narcissistic tendacies at least, so long as they're not being dicks about it, it really can be a good thing. A narc trying to prove to the world how great he is, might start a charity that works wonders for people. Or start a cult and kill everyone, it all depends on how that narc is raised and treatedd.

I completely agree. But the psych-medical field sees ego feeding, at the expense of others' emotions, as a "disorder." I call it letting other people take responsibility for their own emotions, as I take responsibility for mine. I think that allows me to do a lot more, socially, and life-wise, than the average neurotypical.

Yes they are, and they don't seem to give a fuck about who they insult. at the expense of protecting their shallow overblown ego.

People accuse me of being a narcissist, but I'm not one.

I'm not denying I have some narcissistic traits, but I certainly don't have NPD.

On a narcissistic scale I would rate myself a 3, or possibly 4 at the very most. There are others here more narcissistic than me.

as the biggest narcist on this community, i confirm that i know i'm a narcissist. i also confirm that i'm happy with it. i have a lot of confidence, and i'm chasing very very big dreams with... moderate amounts of success.. so far, mind you i'm almost 18, and my dream won't come true until i'm at LEAST 50.. if not like 70.. but it's a long path, and life is pointless, as a human being i have the ability to manifest my own reality. when we turn our dreams into reality, we shape reality itself with our mind. we put reality into a state that it would have never otherwise been, and that is the magic of humanity within this universe.

it could be argued that any data oriented program capable of holding a crude simulation of the universe made up of information, could possibly draw predictions from that universe, draw goals, and then use their physically interacting entities to nudge the universe in such a direction, so it's not to say that humanity is awesome, but life itself is just as quantum computers will be. in quantum computing though, it will be us who are the creators.

the point is that we humans... we are all gods, and we live in a universe that literally is what we make it. we shape our realities. at least, those of us with the confidence and motivation to do so. perhaps it takes so much confidence it requires a narcissist, but either way, i'm glad i am one . soon we will conquer energy, medicine, and perhaps death itself, and then the universe. it is our destiny. millions of years from now it will be humanity who seeded the universe for life, and that diversity that comes fro mit ,and life itself will make for an interesting universe, and give future generations great purpose

You're overthinking it a little man.

I don't believe I'm over-thinking it at all. I have a pretty clear idea of what I am and what I'm not.

I'm a narcissist. I don't see any point in attempting to deny it. Everyone here knows I'm a narcissist. I have never been diagnosed with a personality disorder but I definitely have more narcissistic traits than most people. Thing is, I don't mind it. It doesn't upset me when people accuse me of narcissism and I find it puzzling that the term is so often used in an accusatory manner here. People don't get insulted if a forum member calls them a sociopath but Jesus fucking Christ, you'd better not call anyone a narcissist! (This despite the fact that most sociopaths have some narcissistic traits.)

The term is also thrown around a lot on Facebook - usually by narcissists who're possibly more narcissistic than I am. When you actually think about it, it's pretty fucking arrogant to accuse someone of being arrogant.
