The benefit of forgery, and the point, is that you can sell your wares openly. Ebay, for example.

Selling forged items openly could get you into a lot of trouble, especially if they are discovered to be forgeries. Personally, I think only an idiot would sell them openly on ebay. That's why we have the deep web and the black market.

And before you ask, it was movie memorabilia/props worn and signed by stars. Since I know people in the industry, I was able to provide almost concrete evidence of it's authenticity.

Of course, but my point was, forgerers can and do still get caught. Why run the risk of using ebay when you can access the black market, especially considering the black market provides greater anonymity.

Probably because people who want to buy movie memorabilia will search for it on EBay, not the black market.
