by Pink01There is a difference between watching a movie once and thinking it's cool VERSUS convincing yourself you're mentally ill and making accounts on websites also convincing yourself...
^^ That's half of all mental illness forums that exist.
There is a difference between watching a movie once and thinking it's
cool VERSUS convincing yourself you're mentally ill and making accounts
on websites also convincing yourself...
I totally agree, but I'm not talking about watching a movie once, I'm talking about the mythologization and misrepresentation of AsPD and associated disorders by media entities and the resulting cultural fallout...

I'm a strong believer if a person can be created for movie purposes (minus magical powers and obvious other things) they can exist...so misrepresentation of what?
where do you see the misrepresentation of AsPD? what movie has said AsPD?
by myrealnameYou speak sense whoameye (your reasons for doing so may however be suspect). I don't think I have AsPD, I've never been diagnosed with anything either, but I recognize certain behaviors in myself that correlate with it; callousness; aptitude for manipulation; lack of fear for my well-being when confronted with very real danger; risk taking...
Anyway, I think you're right. I think personality disorders have been fetishized by the media and it provides a convenient scape-goat and fantasy shield for some people. Outside of that, it's a somewhat attractive prospect, to have this part of you that's missing that allows you to to perform in manners outside the capacity of normal, psychologically well-rounded individuals.
I feel this way about people with Aspergers. I would love to try on a pair of Aspie goggles for a day.
How do you know it's not everyone else that is fucked up ? I talked to a guy who was diagnosed with sever ADHD and he had many of the same behaviors as you have listed. I din't know I had a mental disorder until I got locked up. It was 5 years after I got out of prison when I started to realize it was me that was different. Don't self diagnose go talk to a profesional. If you walk around thinking you are a sociopath you will start to act like one. And that is retarded
I say we change the name of the forum to the "Autism community"
Then we can all pretend to have autism and we can argue every day over, who is the most autistic.
We will need to make a list of all of our autistic symptoms. So when new members join, we can copy and paste them to there posts. That way they know we are not fakeing it.
We don't need a doctor to tell us we are autistic. All it requires is for you to believe you are autistic. Its as simple as that people.
We will need to study these symptoms.
Symptoms may include: Significant problems developing nonverbal communication skills, such as eye-to-eye gazing, facial expressions, and body posture.
Failure to establish friendships with children the same age.
Lack of interest in sharing enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people.
Lack of empathy. People with autism may have difficulty understanding another person's feelings, such as pain or sorrow.
Verbal and nonverbal communication. Symptoms may include: Delay in, or lack of, learning to talk.
Problems taking steps to start a conversation. Also, people with autism have difficulties continuing a conversation after it has begun.
Stereotyped and repetitive use of language. People with autism often repeat over and over a phrase they have heard previously.
Difficulty understanding their listener's perspective. For example, a person with autism may not understand that someone is using humor. They may interpret the communication word for word and fail to catch the implied meaning.
