Refusing To Treat A Patient

Yep it happened to me once with my GP.

Basically at the time I was prescribed a medication to treat addiction and what sucks with that stuff is that you tend to get addicted to it (how ironic).

So I was always early every time I needed a new prescription because I took more than I should have. To block this, my GP made those special prescriptions which only allowed the pharmacy to give me one week's worth of the drug (up until that point I had regular monthly prescriptions).

As you can imagine I wasn't to pleased with that arrangement so I managed to scam the pharmacy into giving me the whole month at once. To cut a long story short I got busted by my doctor and she said that she couldn't have me as a patient anymore.

Well yea, but it wasen't because she felt like I was a threat to her or anything like that, it was just simply because I didn't tell enough for her to be able to help me. So she felt like she couln't make any progress and neither could I, so she decided to refuse going on with that current treatment. But she did suggest for me to try out another.. That's about it..

I don't really go around with blood dripping from my mouth and force my balls into their faces trying to show of how I function and how my mind works, that would just be fucking stupid. The last thing I want is their attention.

Well, that obviously didn't occur to me at the time. I mean, I knew she was just a doctor, but I didn't think she would do much about it. For all I know, she's probably told the fucking cops now too.

Aren't doctors supposed to keep things confidential?

Depends on what they are told. They arent supposed to keep everything confidential, im pretty sure that really only happens in movies, where the doc needs to go out and save the world and prevent shit from happening or whatever cause she/he can't tell the information she was given.

If someone tell about wanting to murder people, then the doctor won't sit around thinking: "Haha! Ohh shiiit, I will tell my familie that a mass murdering will be happening tonight, then they will think im psychic!" They have to inform other authorities if someones life is or was at risk.

They must get paid and offered opportunities to advance in their career partially or mostly based on their success rate and performance rate.

If they saw you as too much of a challenge or too problematic then it might look bad on their record and they decided "fuck it", and labeled you as a threat and that would be enough for them to legally dismiss you.

They care more about their careers and personal gain than helping patients. Why is this such a fucking surprise?

Maybe in a fucking movie that would be the case, they do care about their careers, they won't label someone threat if they aren't seen as one, cause it will bite them so hard in the ass if their patient can prove otherwise and decide seek others and to throw a lawyer in their face. And im pretty sure they won't lose anything by sending a few patients away, instead of risking it calling them a threat where other authorities needs to be involved and they actually will need to prove why they see them as a threat.

But there are such things as binding agreements and non-disclosure agreements. For instance a lawyer couldn't reveal to the police what a client told them in strict confidentiality even if their client clearly broke the law.

I suppose when it comes to priests and what not that's not legally enforceable but that very well may not be the case for MDs and lawyers. Furthermore every country has its own legislation concerning that matter and for all we know Australian laws (where TK lives, based on English legislation) is not similar to US laws.

Aren't you confusing privilege with confidentiality tho? Privilege lawyers and priests have privileged information that they can't reveal, murder confession as an example.

Confidentiality have weaker points. And in most countries the doctor will have the legal obligation to report to the authorities, if a person admits to be a danger towards others or themself.

And sure enough, I can't be 100% that those are the standart procedures in that place but it really do apply to most countries.

If he's asking you that it's because he thinks you're being very defensive.
