Well, maybe it is reinforcement of the general theme of the thread, at least of its beginning.
You can still feel a strong, compulsive need to do something, whether you act on it or not.
Since you claim to exert such power over the choices in your life, why are you at the mercy of obsessions and compulsions over which you admit to being powerless?
Do you think that being successful in a job is the only thing that gives someone power?
I wouldn't know. I haven't worked for anyone other than myself in a long time. :)

Obviously I have some control over my urges or I'd be in prison by now. I've learned to avoid the situations where I know I'll act on impulse. I had to learn that from experience.
Self-control is a very powerful tool. With that said though, I do give in to a lot of my temptations, but that's usually because I can and want to anyway. That is still choice and choice is power.

That's what you tell us. You could be unemployed for all we know. Or maybe you do work for yourself.
I hardly think getting paid to give blow jobs makes you a powerful person, lol.

Look at you dance around the point. You said that you exert power because you are a parent, and have the capacity to make choices. But a few posts ago, you were decrying how you wished you didn't have strong homicidal compulsions, over which you have no control. So which is it? You can't have it both ways.
Your murderous urges are rooted in a desire to exert power that you do not possess. You're a very frustrated woman- I suspect in more ways than one.

I mentioned that sometimes I wish I didn't experience homicidal urges because I have to control them when I would rather not. I'd rather walk out my door and kill whoever I want to kill, regardless of who might be watching, but since that will inevitably put me in prison, I can't.
It's having to control them that frustrates and torments me when the urges are real bad.

You seem very slow at understanding what I'm telling you. I already have power. I simply want more of it. How much more can I possibly dumb that down for you?
People crave power for different reasons. To me, control is power, knowledge is power, being a leader or in a position of authority is power, influence is power, and choice is power.
To others, wealth is power, job or career success is power, happiness is power, love is power, and so on and so on.
"What changed that made us go from torturers/murderers as a civilization to what it is nowadays?"
Pretense. We still enjoy violence, as television shows us in spades, whether it's as old as Tom & Jerry and Popeye or as recent as Dexter and UFC. Video games can also be an outlet for this. We've created a system where people still get a small fix from their violent outlets without them having to jade themselves of real life tragedy.
A society that craves violence but fears tragedy to me sounds like a society that can be controlled through the media rather easily. They'll be emotionally impacted from loss, then crave hate and violence as retaliation.

Control is power, yet you admit to an abject lack of it, because you are unable to master your obsessions and compulsions. Knowledge is power, yet you continue to display a lack of it, in every major area, from science to culture to philosophy. "Being a a leader" is power, yet the only person you are "leading" is your 15 yr old daughter, who doesn't respect your authority anyway, given that she was diagnosed with ODD. Influence is power, but you cannot even manage to exert it within your family, community or workplace, as evidenced by your refusal to participate meaningfully within these spheres of life. Choice is power, but you've admitted to being an unemployed, middle-aged, single mom on welfare, which quite frankly, severely limits your "choices" in several important areas.
Are you detecting a trend yet?
Sigh.
