I hope you have seen the effects this cancer known as Dexter is taking on the usefulness of your forum

We've had users create socks in the past but they were at least entertaining. This user goes beyond trolling to the point of flooding the forum with not only useless posts but unproductive and unentertaining ones, while derailing productive conversation.

I've always been an advocate for an unmoderated forum, but something needs to be done with people like this. Something that allows productive members to continue to contribute something useful. I don't know if you've looked at your forums recently... but it's turning into shit and that's a shame, because I've really appreciated the conversation i've found her in the past.

It would be ashame to see this place be burned to the ground before it had a chance to grow.

With that in mind, I suggest the following:

1. Blacklist all incoming IPs that are associated with users like Dexter.

2. Create a separate section within the forum that is invite only.

3. Modify the registration to the point where you must use a non-disposable email to register, thus increasing the difficulty of creating multiple accounts.

Philosophically, I agree with Dexter. While I personally find him distasteful, I think it's his right to publicly make a fool out of himself. I also think you're severely overestimating the amount of useful conversation that would exist without Dexter. More to the point, I think what is considered "good" conversation is a matter of personal taste, and if I personally were to ban every account I found inane, tedious, or annoying, it would be a very small forum indeed.

I don't think that Dexter stops productive members from contributing actual conversation. I don't know whether I'm considered a productive member, but I post what I want on topics that I find interesting. I would recommend that others do the same.

Rather than impose external moderation, I'd recommend integrating features that give users more personal control over their experience. For example:

1. An "ignore" feature, which would probably be more useful for dealing with chat spam than forum spam.

2. A "subscribe" feature, where one can subscribe to posts that can be shown in a separate "subscribed" tab next to the general "forum" tab.

3. A "track" feature for users, with its own tab, to notify if a user you've decided to track/subscribe to has posted something new. Sort of a reverse-ignore, to filter out all unknown/puppet accounts instead of having to individually ignore each one.

Post what you want and if other people find it productive, useful, or entertaining they will generally reply in a productive, useful, or entertaining way.

I'd laugh if Dexter got IP banned, but the fact that I feel he has absolutely no redeeming value whatsoever is just a reflection of my personal taste and standards. Kind of like how I thought the "JHawk" account on one of the old bumped threads who kept calling people kitten and talking about his penis was also contributing nothing.

Introducing moderation introduces the idea of enforced community standards, and on a self-interested level I'm opposed to that because I mostly just like posting random squirrel pictures and minimalist sentences that lack subjects and indefinite/definite articles (:

I have no problem with dexter making a fool of himself. but when he spams the forum with meaninglessness on a constant basis it's disruptive to the development of the community. It detracts potential new members and makes the forum look like a troll fest. The above link shows several posts where he just went in and placed a period in them to bring them to the front page. This has no useful impact whatsoever and if anything it is counterproductive. He's not providing anything of value, he's just being a nuisance.

I would agree that if there could be an ignore button that would be quite useful, but I don't think luna knows how to do that, and it would require alot of back end work for them to set it up.

The subscribe feature, while a good idea, wouldn't do anything to stop people from derailing threads.

and i'm not sure I understand your 3rd option... do you mean a "follow" feature? I would agree with that, but if you really wanted to see what others are posting you could just search their name...

and also... You're the squirrel? what is the point in that?

i already suggested these

2. A "subscribe" feature, where one can subscribe to posts that can
be shown in a separate "subscribed" tab next to the general "forum" tab.

3.
A "track" feature for users, with its own tab, to notify if a user
you've decided to track/subscribe to has posted something new. Sort of a
reverse-ignore, to filter out all unknown/puppet accounts instead of
having to individually ignore each one.

and i said how

1. An "ignore" feature, which would probably be more useful for dealing with chat spam than forum spam.

can be used against you with everyone ignoring each other making endless forum accounts to bypass it

And another thing, trolling is one thing. But to actually be incapable of intellectual discourse, that is what's annoying. A clever troll is one thing... Thrillkill for example is a total douche most of the time, but I respect her because she understands how to interact with others in a social context. Dexter is a social retard... and I personally think we should just kill all the retards...

"but when he spams the forum with meaninglessness on a constant basis it's disruptive to the development of the community"

i told you already i am behaving the same as you..

and the majority/all of sociopaths are "trolls" you moron so your logic is "lets ban sociopaths from a forum designed for sociopaths for the reason that he is a sociopath/troll"

Have you ever thought about all the good things that would come from you killing yourself?

Really, you'd be doing the world a favor, you'd be helping with our problem of over population, you'd be providing more resources for others, you'd be helping us eradicate the potential spread of your future retarded offspring. The list goes on, and all it would take is you hanging yourself... or a bullet to the head, or maybe running out into traffic.

Everyone would see you as the hero you know you can be... So be like nike and just do it! :)
